Christmas 2024

We have stopped buying presents for each other, both in our 70's what could we want that we don't already have ?

Plus I told her years ago, if there is something you want just go and buy it, don't wait for Xmas.

To me this time of year is for the children.

Yeah 100% our 7 year old is still a believer in Santa so we making the most

The twins are 4 they are loving the elf and waiting for Santa to bring them presents

Love the breakfasts we santa that we do at the local harvester every year. Everyone wins

Lovely time a year

To a large extent this is us too.....
If you want something..buy it..
That's why the family Secret Santa works so well for us....

Tried to bring it in with my mum's side of the family after my dad's side had done it for 5 years or so

My aunt got offended and it never happened

I bought Cooper a posh new harness this morning. Asked if he wanted it for Xmas? His look was such I said "that would be like buying a woman an iron for Christmas"...David "oh...ummm...how about saucepans" :)

He knows better!

I think the thing is that for kids they ask “ Santa” so they kinda know what they want. When your the wrong side of 60 or an adult you more or less have everything. The picking what you would like is not a biggie for me. I tend to get things through the year. 👍
When my dear old Uncle passed we found his Christmas gifts going back years stacked in the bottom of his wardrobe. They comprised several Old Spice dual sets, hanky and tie sets, scarves, folding umbrellas etc.
He always said he didn't need anything and no-one listened.
They didn't have Worthington Bitter vouchers back then. He'd have loved that!
👍

My dad used to get my grandad, his dad, beer for Christmas, mild to be precise 😄. It's what he wanted, he was happy with it. As I get older, I understand more now and smile when I think back.

If only people listened more to what people actually want, not what people think they want.

Imagine how sad I felt:
1 That he'd passed away
2 That all the well intentioned gifts were simply unrequited.

Its why our kids will voucher us for a 2/3 day hotel break they know we'll enjoy and why my wife and will suggest something to each other knowing there'll be one small surprise and no wasted gestures.
Watching our grandkids is the pleasure.

I'm sure he still appreciated the gifts, it's the thought behind them 👍.

Similar to you, we've trained our kids. We are off to the lake District this weekend, treat from our kids for Christmas. Perfect.

My daughter has just picked up her Golden Retriever puppy and his name is Cooper, it must be a current fad!

Maybe. He's a rescue so we changed his name - didn't like Pumba!! So we thought it sounded similar...our previous boy Barley was almost a Cooper so think it stayed in my mind.

I get my dad a case of old speckled hen every year. He genuinely loves it. He’s in his 80s so really wants for nothing.

Ours just got us a repeat at Cardigan Bay, The Cliff Hotel, date of our choice. We've stayed several times. The last time we were there we, from our room window, and many others on the cliff beneath, watched a few pods of bottlenose dolphins being followed, (at a correct distance), by boats charging £80.
There's a beautiful coastal walk and we've never failed to see them.
So, to us, at our age, that's much more thoughtful and pleasing than a hopeful punt at a parcel that they hope we'll like, but may not.
Not that we don't remember the excitement of our mystery gifts all those years ago. 🫠
