Local pro Chris Paisley won the South African Open yesterday. His wife caddied for him for the first time ever because his regular caddie had taken a week's holiday. Turned out to be an expensive holiday methinks.

Will his regular caddie get anything or will the agreement purely be you only get 10%, or whatever, when you are actually there?

I know he is from Stocksfield but is that his club as well or did he play elsewhere?

Maybe I should take a leaf out of his book and get the missus to caddie for me. She doesn't know the first thing about golf, but it'd save me pushing the clubs around at least.

If you are already married then you have no chance. You would have a small chance when first starting out, both parties keen to impress etc, but once married you are pushing your own.

I give my wife the same look regarding her request for me to help at her allotment as she gives me regarding pushing my trolley :D

The other way of looking at it is his caddy is holding him back.
If his missus can do a better job ?.
He might be fearing the sack never mind getting his bonus

Not only did he lose out on the payday but you have to wonder if Chris will be heading to ever more exotic locations with his new caddy this year?

I can't believe he's a member at Stocksfield

I don't expect him to be a member there now, or even for a good while, but as he is always quoted as Chris Paisley from Stocksfield I did wonder if that was his original club or just where he was brought up. Nice club but no test for a pro, I agree with you there.

He was always classed as attached to there
I believe his dad still plays there now

Had a brief spell where there was a bit of sponsorship for him from close house too

Brother Andy, head pro at Hexham, regarded as 1 of the best coaches in the area

Cheers Moogie. All his online stuff is a bit vague.

I like Stocksfield. Front 9 can be very tight but you can't blast your way around, I can't blast on any course, and I like that. Club house is always friendly, greens in great condition whenever I have been there. A solid club.

Watched him play quite a bit as an amateur, team league games and county stuff
What a short game he had...!!!
Was like throwing darts
Great putter too

Really pleased he's finally got a Win

Bad call from the caddie. Maybe having the wife is a good move and it'll keep him calm and have a reassuring presence with him during a tournament

My experience with family members is that I tend to play well within myself as I aim more along the principle of not messing up badly than outdriving my playing companions!

I don't think it's a good long term solution. Might have created a nice relaxed atmosphere this time and enabled him to do well, but as soon as it's going badly they'll nitpick at each other and put strain on the relationship! Would any of us really want our partners there when we're at our worst on the course?

Has he come out and stated that he won’t pay him at all? Most people still get paid holiday, so maybe he was agreed x amount of weeks off without missing out?

Justin Thomas paid his 10% of the fedex money which technically wasn’t a tournament prize. I guess depends how close they are, but if he values him as a caddie then it could make things a little frosty if he totally leaves him out.
