Is there any known cheats in your club do people know who they are and what has the club done about them have you been told there is cheats at your club

Not aware of any and woukd like to think if one was found they'd be asked to leave the Club or at the very very least banned from entering Comps.

Yes.

The only one I've seen personally was a chap asking an FC to hold a branch out of his way while he took his shot. The FC declined.

We've had a couple 'convicted' but one (leather wedge) is still playing at the club.

Also heard first hand experience of a ball being dropped whilst looking for a tee shot, penalty not applied for hitting a ball on the green, re-dropping if the first drop doesn't get a good lie, guy taking about 7 on a par 3 then picking his ball up when it was gimmie range and saying to his mate "put me down for a 5".

You hear these stories and regardless of whether they're at it all the time or not, it makes you wonder when they place in a comp.

Saw a former captain playing off the yellows in a comp once, apparently just a senior moment and done it on the previous hole.

Probably just a senior moment when he decided to still put his score in too.....

One often hears rumours and listens to gripes from others on this very knotty subject, however to grasp the nettle and make the challenge is a very difficult decision and one that could possibly see all hell be let loose with far-reaching repercussions.

My own take is to try to play by the rules 100%, because if I went home with a tin cup knowing I had been less than totally honest in my winning it, then I could not bear to put it on top of the TV.

Not our club but when I first got back into golf I went away on a society do at forest pines. Joey leather wedge was in my fourball. I was asked to keep an eye on him. Eh. Why me.
yup his shoes worked well them two days, but coz he never won owt nowt was said but when him and his brother got 40 odd points a piece at Chester it was said they will not play together again.
was a number one cheat and everyone knew it. When I had our pit singles KO comp last year he was determined to win it however went out in last 16 getting beat 7 an 6. Then complained his opponents official hcap was fixed 😳 Proper sulked he did.
so I wrote a lovely poem about his day out. Never talked to me for a month, and did not go to the pit fourball comp I arranged, oh well

Plenty of rumours and assertions around my place. Trouble is no comps are drawn so people always go out in the same groups so nobody is going to pull them up.

chap in a society i play in cheats. Chucks his marker down about 6 inches in front of his ball, then puts his ball down to far in front of the marker. Who knows what else he does.

lots of rules getting broken every weekend too.

Rumours and allegations unknown at my club.
However I firmly believe if you cannot call a golfer on the course if you see a breach in the rules you should not do it later.

how true... i have on more than one occasion reminded someone that they actually scored a six rather than the five they were admitting to.

As a newcomer some years back I realised in one game that my opponent was remarkably adept at finding his lost balls once he'd asked me to play on whilst he had "one last look".

I've played air shots/duffed shots, usually amongst the trees, that others haven't noticed but always declared them as I'd be mortified if challenged.
Yet, strangely, my immediate instinct is to check if the bu**ers saw me :D

Don't know of any in my current club. At my previous club we had a guy who seemed to have selective amnesia about how many shots he had taken on any given hole. If you asked him for his score he would say 5 when it was obvious that he had taken at least 6. In drawn competitions we used to try to pair him with a committee member, or at least warn his playing partners about him. Another member was banned from competitions for 6 months after he was observed by two committee members on a nearby tee kicking his ball into a better lie in the rough, just off an adjacent green!

apparently we have a bit of a dodgy member who is known for the odd leather wedge shot.
not seen it myself but rumour has it.

We have one at our place, my regular PP and me saw him kick it from behind a tree a couple of years ago, can't remember if it was in a comp. Then my PP played with him in the winter sweep, saw him do it again. Word has it he's renown for it but no one seems to have to balls to pull him.
Also saw a lad drop a ball on 18 when he couldn't find his own, I think this was definitely in a comp but what do you do? Report him and it's your word against his?
