Yes indeed, the 1976 game in particular. Two tries from a full back.But he had good points too
1974 was the one game England won. The only such win in a very long stretch of years. JPR missed that game. Still a great game to watch on Youtube. A try from each number 8.

Often said, not quite correct.
He won a junior competition at the All England Club, but it was not "Junior Wimbledon" title. It was British Junior Championship. He did beat David Lloyd 6-4, 6-4, however.
Clearly one of that guys that has an abundance of talent in whichever sport they play.

Played football for West Wales Youth team and signed for Swansea Town FC (Swansea did not have city status then) at the age of 16.
Signed for Cardiff Rugby team at the age of 19.
Captained the Wales team at the age of 20.
Set a British Angling record for a 45 lb 6 oz pike in 1990.

What a great watch. Very noticeable how quickly the players formed a scrum and game got restarted. And a couple of curios from back then…the Welsh lock Alan Martin toe-poking a penalty, and the kickers kicking up a tee.
That 5 Nations was when I started going to Murrayfield…so fortunate to have seen JPR and this Welsh team, and all those that followed every year until my last Murrayfield match - the Grand Slam game against the French in 1984.

When my son was playing junior rugby they had a mini tour. The coach put on an old video from the 70's. Your points stood out and I'll add to those, line outs where the hooker almost bowls the ball in one handed, the jumpers barely get off the ground. Oh, and rugby players were still all shapes and sizes still
Fabulous to see backs running and evading tackles rather than just trying to plough through or over tacklers.
I remember seeing Martin toe poke a penalty from pretty much the halfway line at Lansdowne Road in 1976. Mervyn Davies captained the side, which included JPR, Phil Bennett, Gareth Edwards And Gerald Davies who scored two tries that day. Officially, the crowd was 70,000. What a racket, and when the Welsh fans started singing - wow! JPR caught a ball deep in the Welsh half, and a roar started building. The run made a huge amount of ground before he was stopped, but the noise! I must admit JPR was one of my sporting heroes.

A game of skill played by amateurs?
Some on opposing sides were great friends. Club rugby and Lions tours were responsible for that.
No leaving the pitch at half-time.
JPR did a few toe-kicks for Wales when Barry John did not fancy them from the right side of the pitch.
Did you notice JPR at the end of the match make a long run just to shake the hand of his opposing full-back?
