Hi,
Been getting pains in lower arms after playing golf, now doc has told me I could very well have Tennis/Golfers elbow.

It's not to bad and doesn't stop me from playing (yet) but got me thinking what might have caused it.

Just over a month ago I got a new set of irons with bigger grips, also had 6 lessons which was all about me hitting down more, works a treat now, divots with most irons and better flight but could this change be the reason I'm now getting this pain ??

Is rest the only way to stop this from getting worse or has anyone here beaten it a diderent way.

Cheers
Del

the only way i dont get it these days is not swinging as hard, less with the arms and more with the whole body. If i play a lot, it does creep up on me, then the nurofen gel comes out.

Tennis elbow and golfer's elbow are different things.

Tennis = pain on the outside.
Golfer's = pain on the inside.

I know a couple of people with golfer's elbow and they're both lorry drivers who have to pull heavy pallet trolleys every day which they think is the cause.

Believe its a form of repetitive strain injury [mild? arthritis]... A lot of people in my line of work get it due the 'physical' aspect of the job... Winding film across manually from one reel to another... Doesn't sound much but on a daily basis for long periods over many years the 'damage' is done... For me its grin and bear it... See it as just part of the arthritis 'issues' I have on a daily basis...

Both Tennis and Golfers elbows are inflammations and often caused by repetitive activity that stresses the area.

Rest and anti-inflams is the traditional 'solution', but a brace can be used. I certainly know of 1 person for whom that hs worked - as it does for quite a few Tennis players.

Having played both sports, I'm pleased to say I haven't experienced the condition!

If the discomfit isn't actually very close to the elbow (either side as Region posts) then it could just be either tired muscles (doubtful) or another shock type condition that may be caused by the new style. I certainly was able to make the bones of my hands hurt after a Weekend's golf with PX5.5s on links fairways!

Hi, thanks for the replies, the pain is on the outside of my right arm and down to the hand.

As I said its not to bad at the moment but over the last few days it has got a little worse so might take a week off from golf and rest.

At the end of the month, I'm away for 4 days of golf so need to protect it as much as I can, will try out a brace and see how i go.

Cheers all

:mmm:Read the thread subject and just want to say Tennis:mmm:

On the serious side though, you could look to strengthen the fore arms with some exercise

Try getting a towel and twisting it up like you were wringing out water, hold each end of the towel and twist in opposite directions.

Squeeze a tennis ball, or one of those strees relief balls

Try one of those gyroscopic balls where you spin it up and try to keep it going have a look here http://www.powerballs.com/
