Filled up at Tesco garage earlier then went to the cash point and got £50 out then walked into pay.

Opened my wallet to get my card to pay for fuel noticed my money wasn't in there. Checked all pockets and still no cash. went back outside to cash point and no sign of any cash.

I went back outside after paying for fuel and withdrew another £50. Took the cash so all is working OK.

Checked my online account on my phone and saw 2 transactions for £50 yet I only have £50 in my pocket. 😮 wtf I thought.

I went back into the shop and the manager played back CCTV that was covering the cashpoint.......interesting.

If no one else lifted it the machine would have eaten it back up and it will return to your account when processed. It will show the transaction until then because the machine doesn't talk back immediately to say you didn't lift the money.

Normally after say 20 secs or something it sucks the money back in. Hopefully that's what just happened and the transaction is just showing for now.

Bingo.

We watched the film carefully and you could just make out that the money had been dispensed but it went back in after a period of time. Phew.

I went outside and tested this out with a tenner and sure enough after about 20 secs and beeping like mad the machine swallowed up my tenner.

What happens next? Do I automatically get my £60 back?

Oh was expecting something else - yes it recredits after 3 working days

Or some Eastern Europeans were behind you. My daughter in London has either her phone, cash or bank card liberated from her on a regular basis. The Transport police have found them on Romanian pick pockets a few times now. Another way we are being enriched by multiculturalism.

So was I Phil , someone did visit the machine just after me and we watched him before we realised the machine took the money back.

Thankfully no drama in the end, the machine took the money back but can't believe I did that.

The £60 gets donated to a local cattery or other designated animal charity.

Yeah from what I remember it will be put back into your account. That's not an admission I've done this before :D

As an ex Barclays manager who has had to deal with this in the past, pleased to confirm that when the machine is next serviced, any incomplete transactions will be sorted out,
If it was a bank branch, it would be next working day at worst, this looks like a garage so can't be specific on time, but you will get your money back

Reassuring to hear and a lesson for all I guess

I am begging for the days of physical money to end. I detest carrying around change.

I only get money out for a couple of reasons at the moment and one of them is about to disappear.

Bar haircuts and cash only shops like small cafes I will be cash free later this year! I only get my hair cut once every 3 months and only go to small cafes on holiday.

It will be a blissful time!

Hope your not getting interest on that mistake?
You will hopefully get the £50 put back in your account and not £60??

We've been going to London on and off for years now. Last years trip in December showed up just how many non English speaking people are living (making a living) there now. We have one more trip planned in July this year, and then I'm done with the place. It's like travelling to a foreign land. I'll take my money elsewhere.......NORTH !
