Winter's almost here, the dark nights are drawing in and it's getting markedly colder.

Are you a winter player who plays regardless of the conditions or will the clubs be put away until spring?

Other than when the course is unplayable due to winter weather conditions I like to keep playing as much as possible. If the weather is bad, then a trip down the coast to some of the links courses may be in order.

The course tends to hold up very well in the winter so I like to make the most of the shorter rough and receptive greens.

I play on but do decrease in number of times, spend more time in the gym and work later in the winter.

I'm thinking of taking in a tour of all the 9 holers and decent par 3's in the area over Winter as I don't think we'll get many good weekends between now and god knows when (Any suggestions welcome)

But won't put them away they would only whisper to me from under the stairs anyway.

Neither in the poll. I used to play round the calendar in Scotland and the IoM, but in England the courses can;t handle it, so I pack the clubs away, it's not the cold that does the damage but the rain.

Ive even played when the course was a white out with a 1" layer over everything and we brushed a 2 foot alley up to the hole on each green lol. But it was a great day.

When I turn up and its open, I play, storms/sleet/snow/hvy rain/cold, who cares? I do get a bit silly sometimes playing when its gone dark though! lol

Winter golf is great & I try & play well draining courses that stand up to the winter well. The only thing you have to watch for is icey conditions on the greens where golfers trampling on them will damage the grass stems/roots. Ironically a layer of snow will actually protect the greens from the ice.

I will steer clear of boggy courses where playng them is not good golf & will ultimately mean the course takes time to recover.

Its over the worst of the weather that i return to carrying rather than using the electric trolley. Which means now I've gone over to Ping from Yonex I'll need a new stand bag...hey ho, more expense.

carry on regardless! unless the course is flooded, in which case minty will be getting some phonecalls (by the way, I lost your number when my phone died - can you text me?).

and also, how else will we play The Belfry?

Viscount,

You're more than welcome to join me if the lakes over spill although I nee dto get up there and play your course.... still havent and its only 5minutes from my house.

I'll text you my number. Any news on the "experiment" yet?

I'm striking the ball well at the moment, wish it could have been tomorrow... oh well must keep the swing going for another week.
