Have decided to take the offer as we need the car back and I can't see the other side budgeing without some sort of legal action, which we haven't got the heart for and we will have learnt a costly lesson.
I have to clear up what's left of the warranty.and have asked for clarification, but I'm guessing since it involved oil and filter anything to do with the engine is now out.
She's lost confidence in the car as it's had 3 call outs in under a year so I'm guessing it'll be change up time soon , possibly when what's left of the warranty lapses.
So we'll be looking at another small SUV as we like to have a largish boot to transport the dogs around ( we've got two cottage holidays booked this year, if that happens ?).
I had a quick look at some third party warranty s and the RAC one looks ok, so wonder if anyone's used that or any other they could suggest if we need to take one out of the policy that is offered is too light in cover.

Yes other brands are now under consideration. The H ' bulletproof ' myth may have been busted in this household.

If a brand is attempting to sell on the back of a reputation for reliability... it needs to support this with lengthy warranty periods...

Personal experience tells me, that third party warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on...

Do you know what a car warranty policy is and how it works? If not, then this blog post will tell you everything that you need to know about them. A https://washingears.com/ car warranty policy protects the buyer of a new or used vehicle from costly repair costs in the event of mechanical failure. This article will explore all aspects of these policies, such as who can be covered by one, how they work and more!

My current vehicle came with an extended warranty through Warrantywise. When that expired the renewal was extortionate so I shopped around and now have one with MotorEasy.

I have read the T&C’s cover to cover, so I know exactly what I am paying for cover wise and, I have to say, it is pretty extensive. I have made one claim under it and it was painless.

If you pay good money for a used car which is no longer covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, then I do think an extended warranty is worthwhile. My car cost me over £20k second hand, and I wasn’t willing to stump up that sort of cash without any sort of cover. The same goes for gap insurance, which I have never had before but do now.

Be very careful about what is and isn't covered. Then do some basic maths on whether or not its worth paying for, or whether or not you are better of putting some money aside for an unexpected repair.

I paid a lot of money for an extended warranty on a previous BMW and never claimed on it. But that car had potential to throw an very large bill out of nowhere, and the warranty specifically covered those like items falling. So it was technically wasted money other than a bit of peace of mind.

On the the other hand. A neighbour has claimed on an extended warranty for an new engine in his M6. That would have been a bill in excess of £25k without the warranty. So was well worth paying for in his case.

I’m in the same camp as your neighbour! The parts for my motor are extortionately expensive, and even if I never claim I’d rather pay the premiums and lose a little than be faced with a hideous bill.
