Hi all

This April I start my year as Mens Captain of my golf club.

Today I had a meeting with the incoming Ladies Captain to start organising our annual captains day competition and evening do.

We got lots planned, but need ideas that are a little outside the box for affordable ideas for 'giveaways' for every player who plays in the competition (probably 100-120 players maximum)

every year it seems to be the same sort of thing .. a logo'd ball a few tees and sometimes a ball marker.

We would like ours to be a bit different.

What has happened in the past at your clubs? if you were previously captain, what did you do?

thanks in advance!

Lee

First off, good luck in your year.

But I have to ask 'Why?' on being different. Tees/balls are useful and the couple of times there have been 'different' giveaways, they've been useless. So either stick to tried and simple, or at least make yours useful!

Why not get a four ball at a really decent club. Saunton in your area springs to mind. Then give everyone that enters the competition a ticket, and do a draw after the round. A few tees, ball marker, ball soon get lost, but a round at a top course will be a lifetime memory.

Personally I would rather have the chance of a decent prize, than a few engraved tees.

Thanks very much! Only been playing for about 4 years, so am very honoured to have been asked!

we were thinking along the lines of bag towels or something else.. Tees and balls tend to not last long (broken or lost) and we would like something that will last if you know what I mean!

We do have a selection of 4b vouchers as prizes for things like nearest the pins etc. and trophies for winners etc, its the 'trinket' gifts we are mulling over

It's quite nice getting a ball marker, I'm getting quite a collection now 😀, I never use the tees but I like the idea of a pitch mark repairer. You could combine the two that would be good to have.
i also like the 4b idea.
Good luck with your day

Congratulations. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did last year.

Lady Captain and I decided to buy personalised ball markers, as our budget was pretty tight, although we looked at umbrellas and towels too. We decided not to go too far 'outside the box' for the reason mentioned already; it's about what people will find useful rather than what people will find clever... unless you can get both!

Good luck with everything!

Do you have a budget in mind (I guess yes, better question is what is it roughly?)

Pages and pages of stuff on here for all sports / stuff.

Yes, for the trinkets we are looking at about £200-250 total. Not a large budget but we are providing food, a band and trophies/prizes as well

Just make sure you join Devon Captains in your year for the chance to play some great courses with some nice people.

Oooh, message me more about this!!
I shall be utilising the England Golf captains free membership this year too!

Congratulations. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did last year.

I am liking the ball marker/pitch tool, just got to look around for bulk purchases now :D

I am both looking forward to this and also am quite nervous at the same time!

Ball markers and pitch mark repairers. Don't stray too far out of the box - you'll get the past Captains on your back. Do make use of the EGU Captains society, even after your year in office.

And enjoy!
