Hi all.

Firstly, many thanks for the donations to my just giving page WWW.justgiving.com/rgriffiths1983 from some of the users here. Means a lot. Thanks.

Now to my question....

I have been invited to play , by my friend down south, in his clubs open am-am event. Having looked at the requirement to enter , as I don't have an official HCP, it doesn't give a min handicap/membership requirement, but it does say that any winners must provide a HCP cert.

Now, as it is good drive down the M5 and I don't want to cause any trouble for my friend I am debating whether to play in it. He is adamant that I can play. Now as I know I'm not going to rip up trees off of 3, he is a complete bandit and I'm worried IF we were to finish in the prizes it will cause a world of pain.

What do you guys think??

Rich

You won't receive a prize if you can't provide a h/c cert if requested.

get in touch with their sec and and ask the question to be safe,

True, but I don't want that stepping in my mates toes scenario. I'm not worried about taking a prize home, just don't want an "awkward" moment if you know what I mean. If I shoot 5 over around the course in question I will be chuffed. Its a brutal links

Mention no names, just say you have been invited and want to check to avoid embarrassment, and mention you understand about the prizes

Just spoke to my mate and he says the entry requirement does not state that an active HCP us required. It does state this for all of HCP qualifying events, BUT if we were to win then an active HCP is needed to validate the prize lol. Grey area.

Think I will take a punt, be a decent night out anyway

If its an open then i would imagine the entry requirements state you need a congu handicap. Ive played in opens where ive not been asked for a certificate although ive never been anywhere near the prizes. How can you play off a handicap when you dont know what it is? You could always play off 3 and if your in with a shout NR and no one would be any the wiser.

3 was my last official HCP at the end of 2010. I have since then ,the golf score trackeronline thingy me Bob and have maintained around a 4/5 region with the odd low one, so i know what state my game is in and what i should/could play off so i am know in my own mind im doing it right. I know some are not and i know that is why opens like this(team, non qualifying) are tight i guess.

My take on this would be that they are more than happy for you to play in the event, but should you win anything you or your team will not be collecting.
