Can I get to scratch?

Why set a limit?

I know that goals should be defined, and achieveable/realistic but I prefer to set a goal that is specific to an aspect of the game, e.g. FIR currently 10/14, FIR target 12/14. GIR 11/18, GIR target 14/18. The handicap will take care of itself if your game improves.

Why not aim for +?

The sky is the limit... Let me know if you need any help with a traditional swing :D

Lowest was 2, not sure if my body is actually up to it (water on left knee, bad wrist tendon and pulled shoulder muscle) but plans are falling into place to play practically every day if I want to. Trying to persuade myself it's worth it.... not sure, which isn't exactly the way forward. Don't really want to take the route JammyDodger went (quitting) and right now chopping it around (6.0) isn't much fun.

The course I play isn't great for getting a low h/cap... too tight and the greens aren't exactly pure... maybe I should just concentrate on a 3 month plan and see what happens... :mmm:

Excuses,excuses,excuses....with that mindset I'll give you 5 at best.:smirk:

Only you know what you can get down to. I'm pretty confident that I could if I devoted enough time to practise however, I know that as soon as it becomes hard work, I'll probably lose interest and leave the game for a while. I love playing and will probably be off single figures as soon as I can get a few weekends away from the factory. But when it becomes work, then I'll throttle back.

I'd say as you're currently trying to persuade yourself if its worth it then with that current view you will not succeed. You know as well as anyone you need a lot of practice and time. Getting to 5 or 4 is a good achievement but its gets exponentially harder the lower you get.

It's a great goal and I wish you well with it, it's the mecca for most of us.

The greens at Copthorne are fine, especially as the season gets going. The course is easy for you, as long as you decide to play the game a sensible way.

Keep the ball in play off the tee and you can score low low low. Forget about Bubba drives, just trust your natural swing, and learn to play within yourself.

All you need is a decent 15* 3 wood, maybe even a 18* hybrid and some time on the range with your wedges and short irons.

And we all know there's two hopes of that happening.....

So I'm saying 5.3 for a month, followed by three 0.1 increases.

I wish you all the best in your quest JO, but it's a heck of a lot of qualifying rounds playing consistently below your handicap to get there.
