Callaway Kings of Distance.

At the moment, the SLDR is on the naughty step, it is going anywhere but straight. In fact, it's not going anywhere, it's just sending the ball bobbling along the floor and stopping no more than 100yards ahead of me. I took my old Nike Dymo one, which I can actually get up in the air!

However, my buddy bought an SLDR after he had a go on mine after my fitting, and he gained 39 yards on his drive. Reason? Well, they fitted him with an X-Stiff shaft on a BB Alpha, with some low spin setting. His SLDR has a mere stiff shaft in it, which could very well be the reason. He bought a 9deg SLDR, and the BB Alpha he was fitted with was also 9deg, so no change there, but with a slightly different head technology (no sliding thing on the BB Alpha) it could have given him a bit more too!

how much distance did you gain when you switched to the SLDr from the Nike?

I added 37 yards to my drives with a BB at .5degree lower... less slicey too!

these increases are very impressive- are the shafts longer? All stock shafts?

I 'glanced at' and passed by the Callaway BB stand at AG- think it's time to actually try it out.

Hi everyone,

On behalf of Callaway, I just wanted to thank you ALL for making it to Stoke Park yesterday. While we know you all love golf, we appreciate you taking the time to join us at events like these, given that some of you had long journeys to make, or had taken the day off just to attend.

Thanks too for the wonderful comments. While it’s obviously important for us to get you to try our latest Callaway gear (and to get you to see the benefits that result from having the best R&D team in golf) it’s more important to us that you enjoyed the day. By all accounts, you did! What’s even better..? 89 out of 90 of you had yardage gains (Ian “Imurg”, we all know why you were +0! ;))

For those of you reading this thread, but unfortunately couldn’t join us on the day, keep your eyes and ears open, both on this forum and on our social media channels, as we’re very keen to have more days like these.

For the lucky few who got to meet Alvaro, Danny and Alex, I’m sure you’ll agree we are very lucky to have such great, down-to-earth, true gentlemen of the game as part of #teamCallaway.

Regarding the video and filming from the day (a lot of you have asked!), we’re trying to turn the raw footage around as quickly as possible. I’m sure you’ll understand we have loads of content to edit, so please be patient. Once it’s ready, you guys will be the first to know.

And finally a huge thanks to Golf Monthly for partnering us on this epic event, to Stoke Park for hosting it, to TrackMan for their very clever machines, and of course to Rob Lee and Joe Miller – it seems to me Joe’s show and Rob’s behind-the-scenes insights were the two biggest highlights of the day!

Hopefully I’ll get to meet more of you at the next event. Until then, keep enjoying your golf!

Hi any chance any of these type events would be held outside the southeast?

Just wanted to echo all the great comments about the KOD day yesterday at Stoke. It was fantastic and I am extremely grateful to Callaway and Golf Monthly for putting it together. It was good also meeting up with fellow team members, Imurg and Mashie and met lots of other familiar faces during the day.

I learnt so much yesterday, it had a bit of everything and you were rubbing shoulders with some of the worlds best players. Joe Miller was immense, so down to earth and a great laugh too. His drives were amazing but what really blew me away was when he hit a ball with a putter 285yds!

Oh and I fell in love with the Apex Pro irons, I might have to give them another go soon ;)

Drat, drat and double drat. There was a comp on twitter and facebook to guess how far Joe Miller would hit his longest drive and I guessed correctly at 403 yards, unfortunately there were a couple of other correct answers from facebook and I lost out on a random draw.

Curses, Could have won a driver , oh well at least I had a cracking day and thanks to Nick Bonfield for letting me down as gently as he could :)

anyone know who I can mug for a Big Bertha Alpha 9 degrees , regular shaft :)

A question to all who gained distance. Was the increase in distance readings on the Trackman / flightscope a true reflection of what you felt and saw while on the driving range.

I definitely saw the difference. And they were able to correct my fade too so 25 yards further (avg) actually had 215 yards on my own driver best shot and 250 yards with Big Bertha best shot.

Gents and Ladies,

The day was everything and more to all that attended but what I did not say earlier was the fact that the gains were made with a fitting lasting 10-15mins tops, in fact the fitter, think he was called Nick (Scottish chappie very nice lad) put me in a BB but said he wanted to try me in a BB Alpha to get more distance and then bring the dispersion even further in but was out of time. So the gains in that space of time are truly incredible no matter if you had a bad day driving whilst there or not.

Just goes to show fitting is the way forward as I am sure all would agree but is what you get fit for what you end up with regards tolerances within the manufacture? There I go again a 17 handicapper reading too much into it at this moment in time. looking forward to hitting the ball that should be for my swing speed at the week-end as well, yes fit for a ball as well.

Also the remarks about Joe he is a top bloke and gave more than his time as did the Pro's well worth searching out and exhibition he maybe doing and going to watch........Then you will know what King of Distance is all about and who it is.

Thanks again to ALL involved at GM, Callaway, Odyssey and Stoke Park.

Hit em Straight .....ish (I will with a little help from the Kings of Distance !!)

For sure. I was telling the fitter the distances I felt I'd hit before Trackman threw them out and I was generally pretty close.

Good to hear. I tend to be a sceptic when it comes to readings that seem to favour the product being sold, thank you for restoring my faith.

The reigning in of my fade certainly made the ball go longer, not only did Trackman do it's thing but I could see the distance my drives were ending over the bunker I was told to aim at was different - where my Nike was landing just after it, the BB was sending them well over it!
