Has anybody switched lately, is it any good - worth it?

I'm currently with Talk Talk landline and broadband - costing just under £40 per month and a Sky package of £65 per month.

I've been offered with BT:

Starter + Unlimited BT Infinity 2 + evening & weekend calls

BT Sport pack free

£47.99 per month

Plus a one off £49 activation fee and £6.95 delivery charge for Hub.

I've been thinking of cancelling Sky for a while as I don't watch much sport these days.

The above package seems a no brainer but are there any cons that I should be aware of?

Over to the good and great of the Forum. :)

You don't watch much sport but that package includes BT Sport?

Do you just want fibre plus calls? If so I reckon Sky Fibre might be cheaper. Check what maximum speed you can get on your line. If you can't get better than 38Meg then you don't need Infinity 2.

The BT Sport is free, and they show live Man Utd home games.

There is a standard Infinity which is cheaper. The package in my post was the recommended one after I answered their short usage questionnaire.

Thanks for reply.

I have Infinity 2 with the Youview service and its decent.
The youview box runs very hot though, so much so that I unplug it between uses.
Picture quality is superb on the HD service on a 4K TV and the interactive on the Champs League kicks Sky's ass.

As Ethan says, if max attainable speed is below 38mbps, no point in Infinity 2, other than the Youview package being cheaper.
Also Youview doesnt work where powerline adapters are in use.

Overall I like is as I get 78mbps constant with 21mbps upload and use Sky boxsets a fair bit so a 2Gb program downloads in about 5 mins.

Thanks for the info.

I'm not very up to speed with tec etc. but I thought that if I'm able to get fibre optic in this area then speed will be faster and can accept 78mg.

Two types of fibre, Fibre ro the Premises (FTTP) and Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC).
Fibre to the premises is exactly that, all the way to your house and you will get best possible speeds of around 85mbps IIRC.
For FTTC the fibre is from exchange to street cabinet and then existing copper to your home. Max speeds are determined by a number of factors. Two primary ones being distance from the cabinet to your home and the condition of the copper from the cabinet to the property.

we switched to sse from infinity, got fed up with the constant drop outs etc.
about the same speed, and so far no drop outs, been with them for the last few months now,a hell of a lot cheaper then bt.

Sounds good but I want the whole package.
Thanks.

Thanks again,

Seems its whether you strike lucky with condition and distance then.

I cancelled Sky before Xmas and they called me back with a deal to stay.

My bill went from 75 a month to 40 and I was given a second Sky box with multi room.

I have FTTC broadband via Plusnet and got a deal for BT sports with them too.

Plusnet take some beating tbh.

Shop around and speak to Sky would be my advice

Thanks Sean,

Will give that some thought.

It will almost certainly be FTTC. You may get 76 is close to the cabinet, but speed falls off with distance and you might only get around 30 at the edge of the fibre zone. I am about 600 yards from our cabinet and get about 30, so I opted for a max 38Meg package as there is no point paying for faster.

The wiring from the cabinet to your house is the same whichever service provider you choose, so max speed no different between providers. Only difference is router/hub and other features like TV, free calls etc.

TV packages aside, Plusnet seems pretty good service and price.

Thanks again for all replies - now off to the land of nod, to dream of fast flowing broadband and ever decreasing costs!
:blah:

Don't know all the technical guff was with Sky for 5 years and every so often had problems with losing signal etc, moved to infinity 2 years ago and not had a problem, can't fault it, one very satisfied customer.

I have been with Plusnet for the past two years and am very happy with it. High speeds and stable connection.
Only have my phone and broadband with them, relying on my NowTV box for any sport I might want to watch. I just buy a day/week pass for £6.99/£10.99 for anything I want to view.
Works okay for me but I am thinking of dropping down to a lower speed for my broadband as I don't really need the 72 mb package I am paying for at the moment.

I have EE (Orange Home) for phone & broadband and pay less than £20 a month, then have NowTV box which I pay £6.99 for all the entertainment channels then opt in & out of the sports dependent on what's on that week or month, I can watch all that on 4 different devices, so at worse an additional £31.99, so that's £57p/month all in 👍

I had a YouView box working fine two weeks ago when I connected it using a powerline adaptor (t doesn't connect wirelessly)

BT forum is awash with people ynable to use HD services when powerline adapters are used. I could only use SD which was terrible.

Ah - maybe I was only getting SD through the YouView box - in fact now I recall correctly I think that was the case so - apologies for doubting - you are quite right on the HD front - I was trying to sort out issues with my new Sony Bravia which has YouView built in. The issue is my aerial and - though it worked - the separate YouView box didn't sort improve anything - so I took it back.

As it happens we get BT Infinity here at our home in Glasgow next week - my brothers idea as it is cheaper (I think) than the unlimited download connection we have with the current supplier.
