Any local knowledge welcomed - playing here on Friday for the first time. It looks pretty long but not sure which tees I will be playing from. 1st game for about 4 weeks so counting down the days.

Its a lovely course but not overly long. Relatively gentle start but soon toughens up and is quite tight in places, making driving a premium. Tends to suit hitting it with a fade off the tee, especially if trying to reach the par5s in 2. Greens are normally excellent (albeit there are a few where you cant afford to miss on the wrong side).

They tend to be quite protective of the back tees so be surprised if it plays too long, that said, it can get a tad heavy underfoot if its had constant rain (theyve certainly gone to winter rules)

Practise facilities are top notch (as is the bacon buttie) so worth getting there with a bit of time to spare.

Think Ive a course planner somewhere if you wanted me to stick it in the post

Much appreciated on the course planner but it is a corporate affair and they usually do a 'goody bag' with course planner, a few balls etc.

Off to practice a fade with my 19deg rescue!

Not jealous much

only down the road from me but way out of my price range. A few of the blokes at work have played it and only heard very good things. Enjoy the day is the most important thing

Can't tell you about the course but it used to be a lovely walk to the pub at the back of the estate near the A1 when i was a kid.

That was when the Ferrari burier still had it!!!

Played both courses there in September on a golfing break. Enjoyed them both. A bit like Woburn but with wider fairways. Had a nightmare trying to read the greens - especially the last few feet - so get low! Melbourne is the prettier course and very camera-worthy. Enjoy the day.

Played it a couple of times this year and the Melbourn a few weeks ago.My m8 knows someone there so we get on for £30 each

Both courses are great tracks, always in top condition. As said practice facilities are top notch. We usually get up the at least an hour before just to take advantage.

I think I prefer the Palmerstone, probably because I hit the ball like a t**t when I played the melbourn so spoilt it a bit. Plus it was blowing a gale that day which didn't help.

Palmerston is a gem.....Donald Steel design. One of my favourite ever courses. Mature beyond it's years...you're in for a real treat.

The Palmerston is the better test of golf, friendly start but soon enough in amongst the trees, plenty of elevation changes, good greens, altogether an excellent course, dont expect any craic in the clubhouse, there isnt any!

Get there early and use the practise facilities, they are fantastic but so they should be as it costs £1000+ per year just to be a member of them.
