There has just been an announcement that Lee Westwood has chosen Close House as his choice of venue. Great news for the NE. They are going to change the opening hole and some others to make it more exciting apparently. Great chance to watch top golfers up here and it will be interesting to see how they play it.

Tempted for a little weekend getaway in Newcastle then!

Naughty, naughty. We are on the east side of the country, much drier. We were basking in sunshine yesterday when Manchester was drowning our Olympians. It does however get bloomin cold so moving it forward does make sense. You may not need waterproofs but you may need windproofs.

Whatever peoples views are on Close House the region it is in, the Tyne Valley, is lovely and so anyone coming to visit will see a beautiful setting.

Will be interesting to see where Rose takes it in 2018. Would be good to see it go further south - St Mellion would be a good choice. In the next few years got to hope that the likes of Willet, Sullivan, Wood and Fitzpatrick will improve further and as such act as hosts in their own right. Would be good to take the tournament round other parts of the country, particularly the midlands and North West.

Was also thinking the other day how good it would be if the English Open returned to the ET schedule. It could perhaps alternate with the Scottish Open as the last pre-Open links course warm-up when the Open is held in England. That would mean the Scottish Open could be moved to another slot and held at some of the great non-links courses such as Gleneagles and Loch Lomond.

Do Goodwood still sponsor him now that he is in the US full time? Could see it going there and they have plenty of space for all the hospitality stuff or if they want to lengthen it a bit.

I don't know Goodwood - does it have the capacity to hold the numbers of people and the size of the marquees/hospitality etc of such a big event?

How about GMac hosting something in Northern Ireland - or would that deflect from Rory's Irish Open efforts?

Is there anywhere in Hampshire capable of hosting it? Having a mindblank re somewhere 7k+ yards with space.

To be honest I'm expecting it to go to the London Club or Centurion and want it at Walton Heath

Believe it will prob end up at Sunningdale

i thought the rumours were that The BMW was supposedly going to The London Club after all the issues with Wentworth

Id like to see it hosted at the Belfry when Rose hosts it.. Cracking facilities

I think it's a good thing to see Westwood taking it up North. Good for the fans especially with the last two being down south. I don't know where Rose will take it in 2018 but I assume it'll be down south again. I don't think it'll be Sunningdale as I'm not convinced the course and infrastructure is up to it especially with Sky on board and all the paraphernalia that goes with it
