Now this story has almost certainly affected me more as it happened in my home town but how can it be right that a person who has broken into a home and raped the occupant has only been jailed for 5 years and 4 months? With good behaviour he will probably be out in just over two and a half years.

30 months in prison for committing such a hideous act is in my eyes beyond belief.

And this is just one of many examples, drink drivers killing people in a crash and getting less than 3 years is another example. Just to be clear, I don't blame the judges in these cases as a lot of the time they are handing out the maximum sentence allowed. Surely it is time to start handing out proper sentences to the scum that do these things and actually making them serve the whole sentence. If you get sentenced to 10 years in prison then you will spend 10 years in prison. No Sky TV, no internet access. Life should be made hell for them just as they have made life hell for their victims and their victims families.

Totally agree.
Their victims will never get over this.
I wouldn't even bother locking them up.
A bullet is far more appropriate IMO.

Agree that it does seem like an astonishingly lenient sentence, natural instinct suggests longer. It appears to be in line with the guidelines though, and those guidelines just don't seem right, rape is an abhorrent offence and should surely carry a higher tariff than 5 years.

But watch out for saying that it should be hard time, no leniency, no privileges, no remission. Agree this one should be a longer sentence but prison isn't only about punishment, it has to be about rehabilitation as well otherwise it's pointless. Punish people, protect society from bad people, yes, but also try and make sure they don't do it again. And the whole lock them up, 10 years means 10 years, make their life hell, etc, etc, doesn't do that last bit.

30 years might though :smirk:

Think you need to read Hoskisonns book about life in jail befoer talking about how soft the justice system is. The sentence for housebreaking and rape does seem light though I agree.

Adopted me daughter when she was 2 yr 11 months old. It has been a struggle to bring her up. She is now estranged to both me and Missis T.

she is now 21 and has two kids, her partner, two weeks before my eldest daughter was married this time last year.,decided to drive a car again without a licence, insurance, etc and hit another car. His pal/**** could not do a runner coz he smashed his arm up. He did a runner. He was found four days later.

The same day the woman in the other car died.

i cannot explain how me and Missis Tash felt and still feel about this 40 odd year old woman, mother, sister Auntie, best friend, who's life was cut short not seeing her kids and grand kids grow up. And Husband who will miss out on plans similar to what me and Missis Tash have.

i pray to the good Lord that he never sees the light of freedom again.

So when it comes to discussions of the British soft judicial system, I do not need to read any books. I just need to live and feel real life experiences.
