I get cover through my lease for my car but Mrs Imurg has to plough through the field for cover for her motor.
She normally flits between the AA and RAC, switching each year to get the introductory rate.
Her Insurance company have been in contact to offer her Green Flag breakdown cover for less than half the price for equivalent service.

Anyone used Green Flag...?
Any good?
To be fair we haven't called out either for at least ###years so don't really know how good the big names are either.....

I am considering going down the PCP or Lease option next year. I have been stung quite bad recently with used cars so would like piece of mind...Have you any advice or companies I should consider?

i had grenn flag for a year, had one call out and they took ages and I got £20 from them as a sorry.

Direct line for me.
I have used them about 5 times in 5 years.
Would recommend to anyone.
Probably a bit dearer than the others but you get what you pay for, cheaper is
not always better.

I am with the RAC.
When I get my renewal I just ring them up and tell them I can get the same cover for £40 less than the £40 they have added to my bill for that year. Do you want my business or not, no faffing about.
Instantly given. In fact I even got a reduction this year.

Maybe speak to your bank, you can normally get cover from them as part of a packaged account for a monthly fee but if you do make sure you will use all of the benefits otherwise it's not worth it.

And to answer your question about green flag - my mate has them says they are ok a bit hit and miss

HID does the same with the AA and includes me on her policy, not used it yet though

I don't buy breakdown cover, when I will need it I will buy it.

Touch wood, I haven't needed it for my own car ever since opting out of the company car scheme, must be 12 years or so. The missus only does local mileage in her car and I have probably gone to her assistance twice in the same amount of time. Yes its risky but I'm quids in now and wouldn't mind paying more to join on the spot if I happen to breakdown miles away from home. Sods law you know what will happen now........

Not sure that's how it works.

I have to say RAC. Are fantastic. Hyper reliable and always trying to do a good job

starter motor died last week. - clearly dead. RAC guy spent ages trying to get it going when I would have been quite happy with a tow start or a tow to the garage. And a number of other cases over the years when they have been nothing but brilliant

Wife is with the AA (mines a company car), we joined on the spot when she overfilled the oil and it broke down a few months back.

Joined over the phone, AA patrol was with her within 30 minutes (and we live in a semi rural area), the bloke spent 2 hours by the roadside, drained the oil out there and then, then followed her for 20 miles to make sure all was ok.

Quality service if you ask me.

Deffo AA for me. Me Missis tash and my lad are on the same group level off cover. The thing is it is you that is covered not your car, so even if your wife is driving and is not covered. Because you are in the car. Your covered. If you are in the AA I would be tempted to ring them and see if you can add your beloved to your same cover/ contract.

Its good to know that you can still join up on the spot roadside. I expect to pay a premium when it happens but does anybody know how much more it costs this way?

I'm with Direct Line so might just add cover to my policy if the cost is agreeable. Its been a while since I looked at it, worth a review I think.

I think it cost about 60 notes on top of the annual fee, which was well worth it given the fact that she was on her way to a hen weekend at the time and I know very little about cars and their workings

I get breakdown cover as part of my Natwest account ( comes with Gadget and travel insurance also)

Before using this I was with the AA. They were good to begin with, nice introductory rate which then seemed to grow every year to the point where I cancelled. While looking for an alternative I heard that I am entitled to it with my bank - so use that now.

I'm with Green Flag, have been for years. They only have a limited number of patrols, and contract out a lot of their coverage to local garages instead.

Only once had to call them out, and their approved agent was with me in under half-an-hour.

This thread made me re-evaluate my cover.

I just renewed my car insurance with Direct Line, haggled the quote and they ended up throwing in Green Flag level 4 cover for same price, effectively knocking off £80.
