First thing to do is post the machine specs

Start, RIGHT click "Computer", Properties

What is the CPU and how much ram do you have?

Next click start, Computer, RIGHT click "C" drive, Properties

How big is your hard drive and how much free space is on it

Thaen we can see what we are dealing with

My guess is thats is malware/virus or the hard disk.

1). Run Spybot, if it installs and runs that a good sign. Some viruses are aware of programs like Spybot and will simply stop them running.
2) Run chkdsk /f, it may run on the next boot but if it reports a lot of bad sectors on your disk its time to back up data and get a new disk.

Presume its running windows 7 if its 1 year old.

If its running vista, bin it

The CPU is an Intel Celeron, This is a cheap cut down rubbish CPU
You have 2Gb of RAM which is the recommended minimum, upping the RAM to 4GB may well make a difference

go to www.crucial.com/uk and use their scanner to see what you need

Essentially Your hardware isnt upto the task, remember the old adage....Buy Cheap....Buy twice

Next time dont just go down to PC world and buy what is on special, take some advice, feel free to PM me

Its what I do

Sorry to hijack the thread.

Fragger, my laptop is running Windows XP and has only 1GB Ram!! According to the Crucial Scanner, I can upgrade to 4GB, but is it worthwhile with XP or should I just replace the laptop?

Thanks.
