Bloody laptop!

Sorry to hijack the thread.

Fragger, my laptop is running Windows XP and has only 1GB Ram!! According to the Crucial Scanner, I can upgrade to 4GB, but is it worthwhile with XP or should I just replace the laptop?

Thanks.

Hi Del

There is no point in going up to 4GB as you are using 32 bit Windows XP which can only see 3.25 GB of ram

However it may be worth upgrading to 2 GB, but it depends on your CPU and idea what that is?

Also back on thread, There is an almighty difference between the laptop being slow, and the Internet being slow.

If the lappy opens a word doc in under 5 seconds it aint slow, but if it takes over 10 it is, this has nothing at all to do with broadband speeds , so please dont confuse the 2

Morning. I went ahead and order 4GB worth of memory from Crucial last night, so the deed is done. :o

The CPU is 'Genuine Intel (R) CPU - T2250 @ 1.73GHz'. A sticker on the laptop says Intel Centrino Duo.

Ok but I dont think it will make a huge amount of difference

That CPU was released in May 2006 and was commonly available between July and November 2006, which means that your lappy is 5 years old and therefore reaching the end of its planned lifespan.

It may well crawl on for a bit longer, but you are going to need to budget for a replacement soon.

As a general rule a decent spec Desktop machine should last 5/6 years, whilst a decent spec lappy will last 4 years, 5 if you are lucky
