Blackballed Rules

The first club I enquired about joining at the beginning of the year, want photo and a proposer/seconder and they are struggling for members.
I have since been told that the photos are displyed giving existing members a chance to object to membership being granted (might just be hearsay though)

Dearie me! How can someone object by viewing a photo?

They were looking for lady members last year, I phoned up to enquire for my other half. Basically, they couldn't get her in the door quick enough? Interview? Playing in? Forget that, send us a cheque and you're in!!

I WASN`T talking about my home club , when i joined it was application form signed by proposer and seconder, play in with committee member , then interview , your proposer when in 1st , not sure if they have relaxed that , i was just saying what some other clubs required in addition to my home club , I was talking in general terms on this subject and how in this day and age with many clubs needing members badly that this still goes on , its good in a way that you can stop a known trouble maker from getting in but bad when someone who could be a very good club member is prevent from doing so due to a personal gripe by a club member and the rejected member then has no right of reply . so he has just wasted his and every ones time .

Yep me too , but the info and what is said and by whom is never disclosed , one can only guess and so unable to take legal action

The blackballing could be argued as a slight against your reputation to begin with so there's your starting point. Anyone with the time and effort could force the hand at least to get the reason I'd bet.

Sir Fred Goodwin got blackballed from st andrews , google it and see , fred the shred of RBS fame , got money to burn but could not get in ............so no chance for us if we done like him

In general terms its clubs that still have rules perceived as being from the 'dark ages' [such as being discussed here] that have a waiting list for membership...

It seems that the OP was happy to hide behind the committee when he wrote 'advising' them of a prospective members character - or did he tell him? Kind of think not

We have an application form with a proposer and seconder, the form is displayed for 7days and very few people are blackballed (not the word we would accept) but, every so often we refuse membership on known and checked facts

We refused someone 4 or 5 years ago as he had gone off with a members wife in an acrimonious split, we were assured that if he joined we would lose the member and up to a dozen of his mates and when I made enquiries it was obvious that his application was purely to wind our member up - there has to be room for membership refusal at a private members club!
