Black or Brown Shoes

Current system has its flaws but does a pretty good job of balancing the Steady Eddie styles of guys like me, who shoot the equivalent of 31-37 points most rounds with the occasional 28 or less or very occasional 39 or more with the Wild Willie styles who gets mixes birdies, eagles, double and treble bogies on any day so is completely unpredictable.

If the OP-er is still about, he should take heart in the change for next year. Exceptional Round adjustment should bring an improving Wild Willie 'under control' quicker than currently happens.

Still won't stop true bandits from cheating by manipulating their 'cap but that's a whole new topic!

And White with Brown saddle (white socks) or Black (black socks) for me.

I'm no fan of the handicapping system as it allows players to have more than 1 shot per hole (19-28 handicappers) which I find is hilarious.

However, approaching us with the "i'm considerably cleverer than you!" attitude is as out of date as your old handicapping system.

It is what it is.

We can't change it only work with it.

If you dislike it so much enter yourself into scratch competitions?

Ash!!

Why do you find it hilarious that I get two shots on the three hardest holes on the course?

If my golf skills are not good enough to warrant a hcp of <18 then why should I not get two shots on holes SI 1,2 & 3?

Surely if hcps were limited to 18 and below then the sport would not be equitable until one reached that standard?

Or maybe people of my skill level should not be allowed to compete or play before attaining the hallowed heights of hcp18?

It must be nice to be so good, I'd rather be a crap golfer than a condescending

Cheers

Maybe the use of the world hilarious did me no favours there.

I never meant to come across as condescending.

Maybe I should rephrase, I find it odd that people can get more than one shot per hole as there are 18 holes out there so an 18 handicap should be the limit.

Which bit do you find odd Ash?

Maybe if you explained your reasoning behind a limit of one shot per hole a bit better?

If golf is to be equitable and there is a handicap system in use then surely that should not be limited to one shot per hole?

If 18 really should be the minimum proficiency required then what would the majority of gofers do? Not play in a comp or not play at all or just accept that the comp is rigged toward the better player?

Interested to hear your thoughts but may be better to start a new thread instead of hijacking the OP's footwear thread.

I never said that people should not be allowed to play in a competition or 18 shots the minimum proficiency.

In my very first post you will notice that I said "we can not change it only work with it"

My reasoning behind it is that there are 18 holes and 18 stroke indexes, hence I believe there should be 18 shots for a handicap.

I obviously recognise that there are people who can not get to an 18 hcap and therefore they require more shots and play regularly with 20+ handicappers, although no way will I be giving out more than 18 shots, lol.

Your right, probably the best option is for another thread to this so some people could either back me up or slate me further.

Ash!!

P.S - Apologies once again for coming across like a knobber!

I find it sad that you seem determined to prejudice those less talented than yourself. I regularly play with a lot of 18+ guys in our usual roll up. Some weeks they play well and will get 34-38 points (very often no more than 39 wins the monthly monthly club stablefords). However we also have some lower figure guys too and its a great gamut. How would it be fair for those that are older to lose the shots they currently have, especially in winter conditions because you don't think its right. I think frankly you're a bit of a plum
