Best value driver - £100 - New or used

Ping's seem to be popular - I'll have a good root around Golfbidder, ebay, etc and see what I can find.

When I said I had the Nike SQ, it isn't wasn't the square monstrosity that sounded like a rock in a coke can, it's the rounded version. It's not a bad driver, but I think something that is more up to date would be the way to go.

I just had a glance on there on his behalf, and damn, second hand prices are still really high. £100 only gets you a G15 there. They're even selling TM R11's for 100 quid; I bought and sold one of them for less than that over two years ago.

Interesting when you say driving is a weakness . In what way - consistency, length, accuracy. In my experience a lot of players are better than they think they are but are looking for the sort of statistics that even many pros do not achieve. e.g. if you hit the fairway more than 60% of the time this would you put you in the top 100 on the PGA tour for driving accuracy.

dunno why anyone uses golfbidder/clubsforcash etc, basically ebay with a big mark up on them.just keep looking on auction sites, stuff always coming up.the other day saw ping G20 driver in 9/10 condition went for £73.00,not bad for one of the greatest all round drivers ever made,IMHO of course.

Interesting thoughts. It's more of a swing flaw than an equipment, but a lot of golf is also about the mental side and feeling confident when standing on the tee or over an important shot (important to me - not important in the grand scheme of things), so I suppose in my mind I'm thinking that I must be at a disadvantage playing a 15 year old driver?
Driving accuracy is probably my biggest fault, with a two way miss on bad days.

I guess some people don't trust the individual Ebay sellers in case they get a fake. I use Ebay myself though.

First thing I've bid on on ebay in well over a decade - inspired by this thread - Just considered bidding again but it would take £100 now so I'm out - another will come along.

I have always struggled with drivers. Tried a few of the 2020 offerings in a shop, but they were all awful (I was awful) with paper stickers over the face and an assistant watching over to make sure you don't run off with them.
I took a gamble and bought an "off the shelf" Taylormade M2 2017 online with 10% off for £225. I have no regrets. It's better than I could have possibly imagined, never having tested it.
They're about £200 used on golfbidder but sometimes go for around £100 on eBay.

I have always been a reasonably good driver with the right equipment. When one driver I had was considered non conforming I went through another 5 in a few months before settling on one. However I take my original comments in to consideration when picking a driver. I two have a two way miss these days but know enough about my swing to know why each swing went 'wrong'.


I would agree that a 15 year old driver could well be putting you at a disadvantage I have two mates I play with regularly who upgraded to latest thing from 2 year old drivers (they both change clubs regularly) and I could see the improvements straight away and it making me thinking of making the change this year but they are sort of clubs that are normally well outside of my budget if bought new.

I bought my used G30 driver 5 years ago and the price is as high now than it was then!

There are some out there, not necessarily the big brands eg Benross, Tour edge, Yonex, Adams.

Cobra would still be worth a punt.
