Best round yet

Played Leasowe castle today with two pals. Pro did us a half price deal so big thumbs up to him for that.

Decided not to play handicaps or any kind of format against each other, just to knock it round and see what we scored.

Without boring you all to death I went out 2 over and came back in 2 over. Gross 4 over 77 par 73.

I started really well and wondered when the wheels would fall off, they just didn't. Struck the ball well, hit about 12 fairways, must have had about 9-10 birdie putts I ended up tapping in for par. 2 birdies were nice and the only bad hole I had was a 7 on the 16th par 5.

Excellent course with good greens.

Here's the dilemma... How can I possibly play off 19 in the comps if I keep playing this well? I dread to think what would go in the mag should I shoot a half decent score against ping.

Not necessary I don't think Tony. When my handicap was coming down at Crowborough I was handing cards in from all over the place in my attempts to get a "sensible" handicap. The secretary there never quibbled once where the cards were coming from or whether the person signing them was a member or not.
I'd rather attempt to put them in than be accused of being a bandit.

I must admit Leasowe I found a bit easier than any other courses I have played. It was wide open. Didn't make much of a difference as I was fairly staright all day but at my gaff, its alot tighter and there is more trouble.

I got turned over by a total and utter bandit a few years ago in an open competition.
Dunno if it was a compliment or not, but "effing cheating bastid" were my thoughts. And I could have definitely given him a back hander

It's the biggest form of cheating in golf and some people (some people) have got it down to a fine art.

Being a cheat is not the same as someone who shoots lower than his h/c and is called a bandit it happens all the time usualy taken in good heart. A cheat is a Cheat.

I stand by what I said.

I played with a 20 handicaper on Sat he shot four under his handicap and won we called him a Bandit it happens he was not trying to cheat.

I know Tonyn is as honest as the day is long but he is worrying about being called if he wins a comp off his currant handicap this is stopping him progressing.

Thing is though, off 19 he would come down 0.3 per shot, so if he shoots 10 over, he will drop 2.7 shots. Do this twice, and he will be off 14 odd. Not so easy then.

To me, you have to do this in competition. There is a world of difference between bounce games, and playing stroke play with your name in the book. It is a different sort of pressure. Especially if you don't play in many comps.

In bounce games, it is easy to have a hot start, and relax into it, and shoot a good score. In medal, a hot start can just make you play protective, or just wait for the wheel to come off.

I am not a believer in getting cut in casual play. Especially as you don't put the bad cards in, and there could be quite a few of those too.
