Best golf course and experience of a course you have ever had?

I was lucky enough to get a game at Muirfield recently.

And it lived up to everything i had seen and read about the course and if anything it was even better. the only criticism i had head about the course in the past was its a bit flat, well i don't know where that came from as its far from flat.

From the welcome at the gate to the meal afterwards all tip top, even if the dinning room did remind my off my old school.

The course was in fantastic condition despite it being November, and the greens are the best ive ever played on. The rough despite the open being months ago was still pretty brutal and as my 3 playing partners found out, if you missed the fairway the ball was never to be seen again.


So for me Muirfield hands down, will i be rushing back..... hell yes.

America- particularly Oregon and the high desert courses.

From being met as you pull up by polite marshals who take your clubs and load them onto a buggy while you seek refreshments, to the stunning immaculate courses, the constant 'babe' beer ladies, the immaculate greens and overall presentation of the courses. The friendly demeanor of pretty much everyone I met.

Oh, and the guaranteed 25* weather with no humidity
 
Muirfield for me as well.... They may not let me join but certainly couldn't have been more welcoming to me as a visitor. And the course is fantastic.
 
Royal Aberdeen the week after the Walker Cup was held there.

The course conditioning was just unbelievable. Awesome,greens that had an extra 2 foot roll on them as they were so pure and the rest of the course was in fantastic shape.

The only course that has come close to it condition wise is Plzen Golf Club in Czech Republic in 2008 I think it was,it was just superb with hardly a blade of grass out of place.The 8 that played raved about it for ages and we returned to it in 2011 but sadly the conditioning was not anywhere near that of 3 years prior.

I can do without the welcomes and being fawned over at Golf Clubs......I am there to play golf.
 
Turnberry for me (not played Muirfield) looked after from the moment we arrived to the moment we left the clubhouse, ready for a 7 hour drive (well they wouldn't let me behind the wheel!) and the courses weren't too bad either!
 
So many... But it has to be Loch Lomond the week before the Scottish Open with a caddie on the nicest day of the year. A day I will never forget.
 
St.Andrews and everything about the complex is just class. For the Home of Golf, they really add to the experience at every opportunity.
 
It has to be Royal Dornoch for me.

I stayed at the Royal Dornoch Hotel with my girl friend (now my wife) 22 years ago, I can remember walking along the beach and looking at the course and telling her how much I'd love to play it. Well she treated me last year with a long weekend staying at the same hotel and playing Castle Stuart and RD... It didn't disappoint, as well as being sentimental, it is the best course I've played to date.

that reminds me of when I met an old friend from years ago, and he asked me if Jane (not real name) was still my girlfriend, I said she wasn't and he launched into "I never liked her anyway, bit of a gold digger and I didnt trust her", so when I said 'she's now my wife' he went purple and I swear he was gasping for air:rofl: we parted quickly and I've never seen him again.

Birkdale for me, the p[lace oozes quality from the moment turn into the drive.
The course speaks for itself a top quality links.
Supper in the upper level of the clubhouse looking out over the 18th to top the day off.

Even the secretary after care was top notch after leaving my shoes in the locker room an email and they duly arrived special delivery the next day.
 
Probably the best overall experience for me was at a course just outside Atlanta called the Frog at the Georgian Resort. People out there are ultra friendly and really bend over backwards to please you(!). The course was stunning, very similar in type and terrain to Augusta with large undulating greens running at 13.5 on the stimp according to the starter although I swear they were faster :eek:

Royal Dornoch was also a great experience as I had waited so long to play it, Royal County Down also fantastic although the greens were poor when I was there.

Biggest disappointment......Muirfield!! Sorry but it is basically a flat field in very good condition. So hyped up it just isn't true, there are much better golfing days to be had in the UK.
 
Valderamma - not only immaculate condition but a buzz about the place which gives you the feeling of being somewhere very special.
 
St Andrews, just playing the Old Course is superb, but you also get the buzz of the town. The way you are treated from the starter, marshalls, staff in the clubhouse is just the best I have experienced. Can't wait to go back.

It has got a small bump in the centre of the course, around the 11th and a couple of holes in that vicinity, otherwise flat as the proverbial pancake. Clubhouse welcome was pleasant enough but I was there to play golf not to be sweet talked. I played North Berwick the day after and that was actually a much more enjoyable day.
