Hey was wondering could anyone who has tried out a few of the new 460cc drivers on the market recommend one or more of them? I recently tried out the following:

Cleveland HiBore XL
Cobra LD F
Callaway FT-i
Taylormade R7 Draw

but am waiting to try out the Titleist 907D1 & the Taylormade R7 Superquad as the driving range didnt have demos of them yet. I thought the R7 Draw looked the nicest of the lot and had the most solid feel but I tend to hit a draw/hook sometimes and felt i ended up hooking a lot of shots with it. The Cobra & Cleveland both hit it a long way & seemed quite forgiving. Didn't really rate the FT-i that much for distance but was very forgiving.

Was thinking about changing my g5 and have tried all of the above, but nothing comes close. Remember the shaft is just as important as the head of the club so its worth trying the same driver with different shafts before you buy.

Thanks for that Junior. I'm undecided alright as to whether I should go for a stiff pr regular flex. Haven't changed my driver in years - have a Great Big Bertha with a firm flex - sometimes it seems way too whippy for me as I tend to rip it a bit but at other times it's fine. Will try and get a few variations when I get a club that I like.

I have tried the superquad, and it did nothing for me at all. The 907D1 I have bought, but not convinced it is an improvement over my old R7 quad.

The cleveland always gets good reviews, but looks a bit odd.

No worries Jamie, give the g5 a try, i know its a year or so old now but i've never heard a bad word said from anyone who has one at my club. Ping have loads of custom fit options as well !

Yeah will do alright - am undecided now though if I will buy a new driver or not cos picked up a cheap R510 last year but never really hit it much cos its only got 7.5 degrees of loft. Took it out at the range last night and was really crushing it as it has a stiff shaft and it seems to suit me a bit more.

Will have to go and buy some new equipment though as a flurry of cash has come my way in the past week and have to spend it on something!! I think I see a nice new wedge finding its way in to my bag shortly..... :)

One suggestion I can make is to have a shorter shaft in a driver. I recently tried an inch shorter shaft and I was hitting the ball more solid and much more accurate. If you put a little extra weight on the club head you won't loose any distance either.

The thought of a 7.5 degree Driver just scares me to death.

I've got the 10.5 degree G5 and it's fantastic.

Catch it sweet and it goes for miles. On occasions it's even taken me miles into places on the course I never knew existed ;)

Well I have to say I did hit a few shots that would be well suited to your name at first!! Then I realised if I set up with a slightly more open face I could hit the ball basically as hard as I wanted and it flew very straight.

Was even hitting them almost as high as I was hitting my Great Big Bertha 9 degree. Will try out a few more clubs though as the newer models are so much easier to hit and are mouch more forgiving than a 7.5 degree!!!

I use a driver with a 10.5 loft which I like but slice often. I didn't think I could get on with a club with less loft but I tried a Taylormade R7 at a golf show. I was hitting it really nice then noticed it was only a 9 degree loft. Since then I have tried a mates Ping with 9 degree loft and really liked it. My next purchase will be a 9 Degree lofted driver.

I was fascinated by the look of the new Hippo Hex driver and went to try one at my loal store. Boy oh boy! I hit 20 shots and, apart from one shank I hit them all 200 - 210 yards into an area 10 yards wide and every one went straight with no slice or hook at all (despite my best efforts).

Guess what? I bought it. At a hundred quid it's a snip. It sounds and looks great as well

Im on the look for a new driver, so i tested a few today, i think ive found the perfect most easy to hit driver around. Its the new 2007 callaway big bertha, its great , straight and long, just gotta say some cash now, as i want the 3 wood to.

Just to close on this - decided to go for the Taylormade Burner with a stiff fujikura reax shaft which is 1" longer than normal. It's a very fogiving club and flys very straight for a driver with a 46" shaft.

I tried out the R7 superquad but didn't really like it at all and the burner was much better value at about 2/3 of the price of the superquad.

On a different note I picked up a second hand R580 5 wood - what a clu! I'm hitting it as long if not longer than my old three wood and I got it for 50 Euro - roughly £34. Not a bad deal at all!!
