After a good showing in 2008-9 season Liverpool went backwards by 5 places this season. Benitez has to take blame for that.

Xavi Alonso clearly was a player of class and was sorely missed by Liverpool.

Benitez has had long enough.

With no buyer lined up and no manager I reckon Torres will go and possibly Gerrard too.

Glad he is gone, hopefully we can get a home grown boss again. Benitez was too soft for my liking, I can only imagine how pathetic his half timers would have been compared to BS, BP, GS and the other managers of old.

Oh yea, Alex ferguson kicked shoes, Souness was a cup chucker.
I meant result wise, I'm a Liverpool man too when pushed to support an EPL team. ;) did you read the stat link?

I think he made some mistakes in the transfer market on more than one occasion so I wasn't convinced about him from that point of view. He did have some success but I think selling Alonso was the beginning of the end for him. I hope Liverpool get someone that can turn them around as I like to see clubs with a strong tradition do well especially in Europe even if it is the Europa League again for them

Oh the irony!

Cannyfifer, the stats do indicate some level of success, but search under the same site (wikipedia)and look an man u and chelseas managers, they put liverpools recent managers to shame.

I heard the name Mark Hughes in connection with the vacant post. Doesn't sound good to me. I hope LFC sort it out.

listen, the bottom line is he failed miserably this season. but is it any fault of his? well two years ago, liverpool were mega money, new stadium on way etc. what happened.
i think the biggest fault of his was the fact that he didnt have any decent strikers to compliment torres. he gave robbie keane(a natural goalscorer) only 6 months to prove himself.
Im a rangers supporter, but i have to say gerrard is one of the best attacking(if not the best) midfielders in the world, but he aint no centre forward.
How is it liverpool didnt buy a decent cf to help torres, maybe because the mega money was just a flash in the pan?........

Hands off O'Neill, Benitez was too good for Liverpool and they are on a one way trip nowhere until they sort out the boardroom.

Really sad day this as if Rafa would have stayed they wouldn't have had a prayer in winning a major Tournament for years which would have kept me happy!! Out of the names that are being thrown around I hope Martin O'Neil gets it as I don't think they will do a great deal under him, Hiddink and Hodgson though are a different proposition totally they would have me worried

Ive said it before and I'll say it again to the haters. Stick to supporting your own team, if they are good enough you shouldnt need to worry about any other teams business.

O'Neill is Britains 2nd most overated gaffer....I would hope he was left well alone if I was a Liverpool fan....he will fill the team with cloggers and target men.

Chelsea have had 8 in 10 years so averages will be higher, his record is better than every man U manager except Fergie. what I was saying over Benitez's reign he has won more than shankley, souness, evans, houllier etc and only Paisley and dalglish have a better record over the last 100 plus years. He had no money, forced to sell players and a massive wage bill :D
