Being branded a cheat....

I had a gross 66, nett 61 last week which is -9 at my place. Even lower handicappers can shoot bandit scores now and again!
I'm ashamed to say I wouldn't have reacted half as well as the OP did to a fella behaving like that, I'd have had to confront him and ask him what the hell he was playing at.

Devils advocate here , and i appreciate that +5 thru 12 is a decent score & with 6 holes to play its likely you'd drop maybe another 2 (maybe more) shots or so . +7 thru 18 off 13 is 42 pts ? ? good score but be lucky to win at our place right now ..

id say he was commenting on your all round game hitting fairways and wedges to the green is not the common game of a 13 handicapper now is it ? im not for a second saying you were minding your handicap im just trying to have an objective view of it ,

in any event im delighted ya beat him if that's his attitude

To be honest, my driver was doing most of the work. I dont regard myself a long hitter, but the ball was running for miles on hard, wide fairways. Most approaches were from 90-100, so a full gap or 80% PW, still I never got closer than 15-18 feet.

Name and shame the man. Or least what club he is from I may know him

Well done on the win. Bandit!!!!

Haha thanks Wayman.

Speaking of bandits, I have one of the most notorious bandits in my fixture group in the Nike. You basically type his name and 'matchplay' into google images and there is pictures of him smiling with in a trophy in several different countries...

Having been on the receiving end of this I know how frustrating it can be but there is no excuse for that behaviour. Mine was in our clubs equivalent of the ryder cup against my brother of all people. He currently plays off 18 so I was giving him 6 shots and be played the front 9 in +1 gross! Of the 6 holes I was giving him a shot he parred 5 of them meaning I needed to birdy them just for a half! I had to play to -5 my handicap just to get it as far as the 16th hole. It was hard to take all the banter afterwards but he just played a great round.

+3 gross for a 13 HC through 9 is not unheard of, did it myself on the back 9 yesterday after a front 9 of +7

Some people just can't accept people playing well in matchplay

Well done on the win and some great scoring.

However I am hearing all too often about people branding other players "bandits".

I think these match play competitions where big prizes are up for grabs need to be looked at to prevent this. Either scrap the handicap system in these competitions or limit it to say 5 shots.

A 5 shot difference limit is a cracking idea. Northern Matchplay has already gone some way to combat that by limiting the hcps to Cat 1&2

The guy is a world class douche for that. Well played lad!

PS - get your handicap record for the past year and send it to him with 'All my love X' written on it in red pen

you are going to have to explain the preventive element of your cunning suggestion a little more - it's way too cunning for me to follow!

what on earth difference does it make if a (say) 13 handicapper shoots (say) level par against a 26, 12 or 3 handicap golfer>>>???

I would suggest that they would all make exactly the same comments!

I would even possibly send an e mail or talk to the guys who organise the tournament about the way he acted ( maybe even his club)

I have done. Emailed the club highlighted how disappointed i was with his behaviour. He plays league golf, so represents the club on a weekly basis. His attitude may therefore give a bad reflection of the club.

Also included my matchplay record frkm the last 3 years which stands at W3 L9....

Very well played.

Been there, and experienced the same name calling, a 5 h'cap 'v' a 5 h'cap. I called the guy a to$$er and a disgrace to the game in front of a room full of his peers and the Captain.

Wish I had your cool...

Well played.

I can never understand the mentality of some people. I played a club match last year where the chap I played against was off 8 and started eagle birdie birdie - and was apologising for playing well!! I started birdie par par and said that I couldn't care less about the match lets keep that score going!!
