Tee shot on a par 3 looks close. When player gets to the green he sees that it's teetering on the lip. As he walks towards it, but before he gets closer than 3 feet, the ball drops in the hole. There is no wind to speak of, so it seems very likely that it was ground borne vibration from his footsteps that caused the ball to drop.

Is the ball holed out, or should it be replaced on the lip?

Rule 16-2. Very clear - the ball is holed out and congrats on hole in 1 if a real story. Read the rule explained and the decisions attached for further clarification and what would not have been considered a hole out in different but similar circumstances.

In short you get reasonable time to get to your ball and a further 10 seconds once there, without unreasonable delay getting there

I doubt that the Jolly Green Giant could vibrate the ground from 3 feet away sufficient to move a stationary ball - 10 second rule counts so hole in one
