Hi All,

Just wanted to share some good news with you lovely lot, as today has been a very good day for me....

Firstly, I managed to drive my car this afternoon for the first time in 3 months, so I'm no longer reliant on friends and the missus to get places :)

Secondly, and much more importantly, I managed to play a full round of golf for the first time in 3 months too. Woohoo!!! :D :D

I'd played a few holes earlier in the week as well as had a few trips to the range to test my swing, my leg strength / balance, and whether I was comfortable enough to play and decided I was, so ventuerd into the sun this afternoon for a solo round.

Started off playing like a complete pleb with 3 doubles on the bounce but managed to par the next 2 holes. Played the remaining 4 holes in 4 over gross leaving me with a 1 under hc 45.

The back 9 was a mix of the same but tiredness took hold and I struggled off the tee a bit more but managed to finish on a high with a nice par 5 on the 18th. Counted the numbers and was chuffed to have shot a level handicap round of 91. :D

Lots of bad shots (as expected) but also plenty of good shots, especially with the shiny new Vokeys which arrived yesterday, but off the tee I was pants. All of my bad ones were going left which was disappointing as before today I'd been driving the ball better than I ever have.

Still, I won't complain as it's awesome to be back playing. Still got to take things easy but suffice to say, I'm blooming chuffed!! All I need to do now is sort my membership at my new home to be, get a lesson or two booked in with the pro, get some regular practice sessions in and get back to playing as much as I can!!

Absolutley cream crackered now so time for a long sit down on the sofa and a nice takeaway :)

Sorry for the long post. That is all. :D

Well done mate. Great news. It'a big step to complete that first round after a lay off. It won't take you long to get back to fitness. I struggled intially in Feb but played 18 on Saturday, Sunday and Monday over the B/H no worries.

I also found when I started back that I was swinging within myself and as a result was hitting the ball surprisingly well. Good idea to book some lessons. I had a couple just to get things checked over and the pro got me hitting it really nicely which gave me a lot of confidence.

Cheers guys. I definately plan on getting the pro to check things over as I did seem to send an awful lot of shots left. Sure it's a simple thing like a grip issue but be good to get a once over from an expert as I was starting to make real progress last year and lessons were undoubtedly one of the main reasons.

One thing that did catch me out was just how hard the ground was!!

Welcome back Achilles that's great news. Shooting to handicap is not too shabby either after your lay off. Don't push it too hard too fast and here's to a nice handicap cut soon as the cherry on the cake :D

I wouldn't read anything into the way you hit the ball out there today. Just enjoy the fact you were back out there and leave it at that. If the problems persist once you are back to something resembling fuller fitness then maybe get a pro to look at the swing or hit the range for a session or two
