Yesterday took nipper to a half term golf camp. While I was there, I thought I might as well hit a few balls. I hadnt planned it or taken my clubs. Our range has a bin with spare clubs (mostly old and rusty). So got some balls and picked a Nickalus 6iron and hit a few balls while talking to another dad. Nothing too onerous about 30-45 mins with about 20 balls. As the club was not doing what my regular 6i does, I did try to hit a few hard ones.
Later in the evening, started to experience a small pain in the chest. Today, the left side of the chest was in real pain. Tried to ride it out, but by afternoon, I was fairly close to dial 999 as the pain was getting unbearable. Finally got to the A&E and feared the worst. Bless our A&E, they put me on priority. ECG, blood test, BP, X-ray later the doctors have ruled out any damage to organs. They think it is a muscle pull/stress in the chest caused by golf!!! Cant do anything, but rest and pop painkillers for the rest of the week. Unfortunately the Dr says it will get worse before it gets better .. No golf for the next couple of weeks. In hindsight lucky as I was not selected for the TM SLDR fitting yesterday..
Just shows the importance of stretching or warming up even if you are going to hit a few balls (esp at my age). Bloody painful way to learn this lesson. Speaking of stretching.. here is the master at work.
