i am, well i should say i was playing great golf. 10 months in to golf and shot a 84. had my monthly lesson today expecting to get a massive pat on the back and being told i'm a golf god :D. HOW VERY WRONG.

just about everything in my golf was bad. soooooooo many bad habbits had formed. i did say 'but i'm playing well?' he said 'getting from 110 to the high 80's is easy, now the work beggins! :( so in a nutt shell i've got to take 8 steps back to go 9 forward!

WHY DO WE PLAY THIS GAME

Look at some of the top professionals.

Majority of the successful players DO NOT have a perfect classic looking swing...

Some tips are great from the pro's around major flaws, but we should trust our swings more, rather than trying to mould ourselves into the 'perfect golfer'

90% of low scoring is done from 100yards and in your head.

IMO, congrats on the 84 BTW

I have to agree.

I'd think long and hard before you change your whole game as it could set you back the whole season.
If you're playing well and enjoying your golf, why fix it?

So why did you make me change my swing?

Oh...that's right...because I was slicing everything. :(

i was thinking along the same lines. might work at one thing at a time rather than try and put all the changes in at once

If your coach is pointing out several flaws then you may be making several compensations/recoveries to hit good shots. You will be less likely to maintain these under pressure when it really matters.

It just depends how low you want to get eventually. If you can work on your short game and trust your swing you may shave another 5-6 shots off and maintain a handicap of around 8-9. If you want to get to low single figures then you may well need to go with some changes. The top players may not have classic looking swings but they always have the basics right.

I would speak to your coach again and ask what changes he recommends and how much work will be required to make them. Discuss what you want from the game and where he thinks you can go then take it from there.
