A word of warning to those using the Ayrshire trunk road.
New short distance ASC's have now been placed at the Entry/Exits of all the villages on this route.
They are through the 20,30 and 40 mph zones.
Coming down the hill to Turnberry is a special one to watch.

.....and no, I have not been done:lol:

Good to know Doon  we've been promised a few invites from down that area :D

Its the ones that go racing between the gates and slow down for the cameras that crack me up. Almost like they don't get how it all works...

Loads getting done on the M90 at the Forth Bridge just now with the enforced 40mph limit from Rosyth to Echline.

Ive heard that the ones already there arent n havent ever worked, ive also heard the ones on the m8 a8 are the same, will have to wait a few weeks to find out about the second one

I don't speed anywhere (not even in my new Superb BiM :mmm:) my job depends on my licence and I see no need for speeding anyway. I'm a fully paid up member of the blue anorak and flat cap club.

I find driving these days so stressful because of the cretins sitting on my boot lid mouthing obscenities at me for sticking to the limits in built-up areas and on the open road too.

I spend so much time looking at my speedo and trying to spot cameras that it's just become a joke. My attention from watching the road is diverted so much and I believe that quite a lot of this stuff is revenue-gathering placed behind a smokescreen of safety. I wouldn't dream of taking a motor into London as there must be more cameras (of all types) there than Hollywood and Pinewood put together.

You never see a camera or a van when some wazzock screams past you at 55 in a 30 zone but I know so many who get done for 34 etc by a van or a radar gun.

I think it's part of a Police Scotland safety initiative. I know they have been out in force around my local town in the fringe 20mph zones. A nonsense in my book considering the speed bumps and islands in place already in those areas.

Exactly, if it is a 20mph speed limit then the traffic should already be doing that speed or there should be physical measures in place to achieve that speed, there shouldn't be a need for police enforcement.

Some of the physical measures put into place are pretty ineffective... Rather the authorities concentrated on policing urban areas effectively rather than spend time/energy on money gathering exercises on arterial routes...

The engineering measures exist. Unfortunately the same politicians who pander to the (perceived?) need for 20mph limits don't have the necessary cojones to implement the measures that would result in its effective enforcement, hence we end up with the dog's dinner that you refer to.

I don't have an argument with that in principle, but would say that there is still a need for some enforcement on arterial routes to take out the worst offenders.

Yes...

The 20mph area on the A77 is through the high street of an historic town.
In some places the pavements are 3 foot wide and there is just enough room for two lorries to pass.
A by pass has been promised for 25 years.

So much for that listening Government in Scotland
