I am attending a 2 day assessment centre next week for a new job. It is situated at a local hotel and I was wondering if any forummers have any experience or advice they are willing to share as this is my first job "interview" since I was 16 (now 39 )
Any help greatly appreciated.

One thing i was taught was to do some research about your potential employer, and think of some questions regarding the company.

So it's probably an individual and group exercise thing then. My condolences to you.

Group tasks with a bunch of others that are all there for the same reason, to get the one job, aren't pleasant. Think 'The Apprentice!'.

Seriously though. Unless you know whether they're looking for a leader, a do'er, a by-stander, or whatever other buzzwords for different 'types' are now-a-days. Just be yourself, and enjoy it.

Though at almost the same age as me, I'm sure you'll have a good idea what to do and just to go along with it.

Personally I dred those new sycometric tests. The old ones were fine, but the new ones! You know the ones. eg There are 10 people in a room. Two leave but 3 walk back in. Of the 3 that walked back in only one was part of the original group. Another five then leave. But 4 enter the room. Again only 2 were part of the original group.

Where have the people who have left the room gone? And how many cats are there in Aberdeen?

????????

They are that twisted.

I wish you all the best. Stay off the booze. And get an early night. Good luck.

That's exactly what it is except that it is for jobs at abrand new place so there is more than one position at stake. I'll just have to see what happens I suppose. Thanks all for the words of wisdom, I'll leave the fire extinguishers well alone. ;)

Unless it is a highly technical job, and possibly even if it is, they shouldbe looking for good attitude, willingness to work as a team, engage with other people. Try to be likeable and easy to get on with and try not to be a smartarse or a joker. Don't compete with the others or try to sabotage their efforts.

Hey guys.

This assessment was scheduled for a couple of weeks ago.

I think we should be asking Wildrover how it went, not still giving advice :)
