• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

Are you going to pick and place???

sooner use a mat than having to tee up on the fairway,i love watching the old duffers at my club and the add ons they have on their mats, from reversing the mat so the shiny side is up and placing their ball on the raised plastic knobs on the back or bending one corner so it is like a tee and placing the ball on top,or having a plastic tee in the matt then hitting a 3 wood into the green from over 200 yds and then saying "got hold of that one well!!!!" with a sly smirk.

I don't bother picking and placing, unless the ball is very very muddy. I know some people who do it every shot (when allowed). I just don't see the point. Can't do it in the summer, so don't do it in the winter

unless its in a divot i will play it has it lies
And give away an advantage to everyone else?
The rule is that you can prefer your lie, why not? when the weather starts getting drier again , it doesnt happen in a day so you will get used to normal conditions naturally.

I have no shame and pick and place every time I hit a fairway. Ideal to give you a chance to hit the long par 4's or make a good contact with a mid-iron to lay up into ideal position on the par 5's

The game is tough enough rules are there to ensure fair play for all. Good shots shouldn't be penalised by a muddy ball benefit of hitting those fairways.
