Are Footjoy cutting quality?

Well done to FJ for taking the time to get in contact with GM etc but to be honest the reply has done nothing to change my opinion of Footjoy at present. The points he made were very 'cut and paste' and if we had all guessed what kind of reply we'd get, I bet most of us wouldn't be far off.

Thing is I've only every owned FJ golf shoes and now even my waterproofs, umbrella and alot of my clothing are Footjoy. I wonder if I'll consider them in the future when the time comes to change (or possibly even before).

How many pairs do you own then Imelda?
er, a few more split between Ecco, Adi and Nike
Its fair to say i do like a shoe.. be it golf or normal. Think I had 10 pairs of Timberlands at one point and these days very partial to a brown suede loafer
anyway, the men in white coats are just in reception

Matching manbags too?

I've had a pair of dryjoys for a couple of years but not worn them much and when I have it's during the summer months. I wore them last week in the rain and water was getting in in the toe area. Of course they are out of the guarantee period now but still disappointing considering how little they've been used. Will be switching to something else in the near future.

I think a lot of it is the disposable world we now live in. Nothing lasts. When I bought my lunars last year I thought I'd get two years out of them. They are cleaned meticulously ever week and polished. I even take the bloody laces out and clean them too! 18 months and leaking. I think the sizing is a bit of a cop out too. I have one foot bigger than the other so have to get the bigger size and put an in dole in the smaller one. It's not a massive difference about 1/2 a size. What should I do buy 2 pairs in different sizes! As I put in the ecco thread my Clarkes shoes get worn for more than 8 hrs everyday in rain snow all sorts. Never let me down, although the dole is wearing a bit now, my golf shoes 8 hrs a week max. Knackerd!

You can order FJs with different sizes on each foot

Part of our research has uncovered that in excess of 80% of golfers are wearing incorrectly fitted shoes, in most cases the shoe being too large for the foot. We are continuing to work with our retail partners to ensure that professional shoe fitting is carried out to ensure the correct shoe size is established before a purchase is made.
We have many golfers comment to us that they are a size 9, always have been and always will be. This is in fact not the case. Our feet change size/width over time. We all know that golf is a performance sport and a vital element to a golfers performance is being stable during the swing. A shoe that is too large for the foot will cause endless problems to the golfer as well as the shoes longevity.

I went to a local large well known retail outlet for the purchase of new pair of golf shoes, and yes in store they did have a Brannock device, but I had to use the device myself and found that one foot was larger than the other, this I already knew but not by how much. I also knew that I would need a wide fit shoe. When I asked if they had a wide fit, I was told the shop does no carry wide fit shoes and they would have to be ordered in specially, not ideal.

When at an independent golfshop, again I queried about the wide fitting and was told that because not many people required a wide fit the shoe I liked would have to be ordered in, but was then told that individual orders for shoes would cost an addtional sum of money as the company in question had started charging for delivery on individual orders, so an expensive pair of golf shoes got more expensive.

It's frustrating in the first part that golf shops do not carry wide fit shoes, but if the demand is not there I can understand why, but then why charge to get single orders delivered and in he second why can't shops measure your feet? When you were a kid your feet got measured and shoes fit, but as adults in golf shops its hit and miss. If you do have feet of different sizes or have wide feet you're screwed, which is why us golfers end up buying ill fitted shoes probably a size to big, just so the wide part of the foot is accomodated comfortably.

My issue with all shoe manufacturers is finding the style I want in the size I want to try on....

I need a wide fit shoe - always have
I'll work out beforehand what style fits my budget and likes but when I hit the shops it's virtually always impossible to try a shoe on.
Take the FJ Dryjoy Tour - many different colours/styles but basically the same shoe..
What's the problem with having a pair of each size in stock, not all the same colour/style, so that they can be tried, and if the fit, ordered in the prefered colour/style..? I don't want the shop to have to order in size 8W for me to go back a week later and say they don't feel comfy - waste of everyone's time.
Instead you find every colour has 8, 9, 10 etc in regular fit. Maybe a 9Wide but that's no use to someone with size 8's....

If FJ want us to wear the right size they need to make it easier for us, through their retailers, to enable us to do so.

I believe the majority of people have slightly different size feet - my left is about 7 3/4, my right is 8 - so if I buy a pair of 8W I'm going to have an ill-fitting left shoe which will therefore crack/leak etc etc.

No easy/cheap way to solve it
Which is probably why I'll continue to spend 45 quid on a pair of AQL's and hope to get 18 months out of them....
