Are Binmen Lazy?

No complaints, they do a great job here, but. One day the lid caught the wind and broke the hinge. Onto the web to order a new one and explained the problem. Two weeks later new bin arrives showed it to the driver who said if he had known he would have brought a new hinge and fitted it. "So", says I, "you will be able to do that back at base". "No", says he "the whole bin will go to recycling". You can't make it up.

They aren't lazy, they are just stupid. My dad drives for the local council street scene service and the "bin men" who get the bins areal thick and lack any sense of initiative. Just get bin empty bin put bin back.

I agree about the point of less men having to do more work and the efficiency part of it.. and it looks like exceptionally hard work!! BUT should it be done detrimentally to standards just because there's less of you? Shouldn't someone be pointing out that the job just can't be done to a decent standard with too few men? sign of the times? Absolutely.

That's just reminded me of a situation/argument I had about a year ago.

Put my Garden (brown lid) cuttings bin out early in the morning and when I came home it was still their, full!

I rang the council and they said they would investigate. They came back to me stating that there was animal (dog) waste in a plastic bag/s in the bin and as such it was left.

Someone had walked their dog and placed a single doggy bag in my bin as they went past, now is that a jobs worth or what!

I don't think anyone understood the irony that if it was 1ft down in the bin under some grass it would have been taken regardless.
