You'll never get a Scotsman killing a spider! 
Looks a bit like a Cardinal... can grow up to one 'ell of a size, for a UK spider. Some people react to its bite but most people run fast enough and far enough for it not to be a problem.

"Baby" Cardinal. A Cardinal can reach over 10cm.

Legs look too short for a Cardinal for me. The abdominal markings aren't too dissimilar to some species of Orb Weavers that can be found in the UK.

I’ve noticed recently over the lockdown period the number of spiders seems to have increased. We have two regular ones that have moved in recently (I know 2 is not a lot this does not include the hundreds in the garden). Mrs Doh and I both like spiders and most creepy crawlies. It’s more to do with the good weather than the lockdown. Enjoy them.
