With all the cost cutting going on these days I have been limiting my interest to budget or last year's golf clubs. I have quite a few clubs around me and realised that there was only 1 where I could try and buy from the budget companies. All of the other pro shops stock pretty much only Ping, TM, Callaway or Titleist. Only Rutland Water stocks Benross gear and none stock MD or Ben Sayers.

With cash being tight for many people at the moment, how many here have pro shops that stock any selection of cheaper gear or any older kit at cheaper prices?

Aye our's has Bennross and MD stuff. With a few sets of 2nd hand stuff, its a great shop. Run by 2 lady pro's, so they actually cater more for the ladies from the local area.

Ours pretty much exclusively stocks budget stuff, with the exception of Vokey wedges and the occasional Ping driver etc.

Our club shop is an MD Golf main dealer......There pretty reasonable too......

I find alot of pro shops I've visited at clubs have a pretty poor club stock. Theyvseem to be focusing more on clothing, balls and accessories for day to day sales

Unfortunately are club pro has just announced he is closing the shop of stock,i can understand his decision as the business must be hard to make ends meet with only 220 members. The good news is that we can use are vouchers at one of the best stocked pro shops in the area.

Poker, i think this is the reason alot of them are having minimal stocks. With everyone going on the interwebby for best deals on both used and new clubs the pro shop sales are almost a thing of the past.

My industry is the same, its very rare a customer ever comes into my shop, 99% of my business is ecommerce.

Ours does Ping, he has a Titleist fitting case but I've only ever seen the odd club, an advert for Mizuno fitting but never seen a Mizzie in there. Other than that he does PGA

Our stocks 4 year old benross or any old crap, its strange as it has loads of womens clothes and hardly any female members :D

They also don't have irons on show, probs one of the worst pro shops I have been in.

We've got a pretty big shop at our place with a good range of clubs but it does focus on the major brands. Ping, Titleist, Callaway, TM etc

Don't think I've seen any budget stuff in there.

The sticker price on all our stuff is right up there at MRP, but they will drop the prices if you ask.

I know a lot of our members don't even consider the AG's and onlinegolf's of this world and happily pay the shops prices.

I know last year when I got a new Vokey wedge, I think I paid something like £69. I'm sure they had them at £99. Which I think was £10 more that MRP !!

How do other club shops compare to the MRP prices ?

When I bought my i15's earlier this year I was ready to order off the internet. I'd had a really good quote from an ebay seller (Kosha Ping Dealer too) and honestly didn't think anyone would beat it.
I happened to pop into the shop at Highwoods for something else and noticed a brand new set of i15's in the rack for exactly the same price as I had been quoted on the 'net.
Deal done and I was playing with 'em that afternoon
;)

My pro shop is pretty bad for prices. Nearly everything isat full RRP including balls. The only older kit they have is either ancient second hand gear or a few of the last year's Ping range but the G10 kit is still at a pretty high price as well.

I am pretty spoiled living in sheffield because there is an American golf, Sheffield Pro Golf (very well stocked independent) and then a pro shop at the driving range that is now independent but used to be stocked by Sheffield Pro mentioned above so can find a decent range of cheaper and 2nd hand kit.

most of the online pricing is tempting, however I try to buy as much as possible out of driving range pro shop as he does my lessons when I need one and he is usually pretty good to me with discounts.

Prices are at/near MRRP but then they don't get that much leeway as Pro Shops darn sarf aren't as well organised as in other parts.
I really don't know how the pro shops in the area make a living with both AG and DG nearby.

They haven't got any 23* Grafalloy shafted Benross hybrids have they ?

:D

He doesn't have a huge range in at anytime but its usually a few Titleists. He will order stuff in pretty regularly and will try and price match. To be fair, its a private mebers club so the demand on new sets doesn't warrant carrying a huge selection.

I agree that not every pro shop can stock everything but a £30 club is an impulse buy whereas a £100 club is an investment that takes consideration.

Is is not likely that a pro shop would get a better income from selling a larger number of budget clubs rather than the odd premium club.

I will be honest and say that I do not know the difference in mark ups on the brands and am not sure whether there are restrictions on what you can stock if you stock certain brands.
