I have updated every club in the bag in the past 2 years with the exception of my wedges. TaylorMade ztp (2008) It's definitely time for new ones, but I have a couple of questions.
1. Should I buy wedges in the winter, testing/fitting on wet ground, so I am ready for the new season?
2.wait until spring, test/fit on better ground conditions
3. Which wedges should I get?

Hcap of 5, wanting to improve.

I'd definitely suggest giving Iain Clarke a call at Icy Golf, there are a number of positive reviews of both his clubs and service on here which led me to visiting him a few weeks ago. I was thoroughly impressed with him service and came away with 2 new wedges. I've been meaning to write a review but haven't got round to it.

They are very good value for money also

Yeah 2nd that opinion. Had mine for 3 yrs now, and if I'm ever passing near him I call in for a chat, tea, and a quick spit polish and sand blast and they look brand new again, in fact it's hard to tell the difference between new and old. You also get a lesson on technique and how to play shots in his back garden, can't fault him.

I'm someone who doesn't take big divots with a wedge so tend to go for low bounce wedges. Replaced mine this year with Vokey SM6s which are great look, feel and performance.

As to when I'm not sure it matters because the faces only last a relatively short time compared with other clubs. Getthe yardages dialed in on the range and enjoy.

Firstly I need new ones, the grooves must be dull after 8 years of action.
I want to improve the number of birdies made. A lot of my shots are less than 100 yards but often don't hit close enough to convert a birdie. Surely a couple of shiny new wedges (already having lessons) will help.

Another vote for SM6's, I recently bought a couple after tests on a launch monitor and then outside playing in and around the green. The SM6 suited my eye best and the grind options are great. On the launch monitor they were also the highest in terms of spin (9000 av), the Mizuno T7's were a close second (8500 av) and a lovely club just preferred the SM6 grinds more, the Callaways and Clevelands last (7500 av)

I changed from the tm ef 50 + 56 to the rotex 2.0s 52 +58 because I couldnt get on with the 50. Loads more confidence on the longer distances in the cavity back 52, 58 still a work in progess.

Try all, im sure there isnt a bad wedge out there

i have a pair of callaway MD3 wedges, and have to say they are very good, but having changed irons, i changed the wedges too, and went for cleveland rtx3, always liked cleveland and had the rtx2 before the callaways. going from 52&58 to 50, 54,58, i would go and try a few different ones out and see what you think, i always found vokey to head heavy, but played with the sm6 and found them very nice also.

Dropped the 3i bob, I put it in as was another option from the tee, but rarely used it and didn't really give that much more than a good 4i for me, I can get away with playing 4i and still reach the green on the holes I may have considered hitting 3.
Plus the new set has no 3 😬

I recently bought the Mizuno MP-T5's from American Golf on their Double Trade In.

Not the the most recent wedges but I personally cannot fathom spending over £200 for 2 newer models.

Theyve already massively improved my game, short game has come on leaps and bounds and I feel like I'm getting the ball closer to the hole and striking it much cleaner. Lots of spin on them which is taking some getting used to.

Would recommend if not wanting to spend mass amounts.
