I’m a reasonable bunker player too. Just my back won’t take the pressure after my op. Technique hasn’t changed and I can still borrow a mate’s 54/56/60 and dig it out. Better health wise if I don’t do it though so I appreciate that good technique, Hines by practise and lessons on top is key. And then if you want to spend your own hard earned Ona club that aids further i can’t see the harm. Enjoy your virtual golf everyone!
honed by that should say

I had one, but didn't work out.
Have a look at the taylormade hi toe big toe range. Bit more versatile I believe...
Hi. Yes I had one. Tried a Trusty Rusty, an RTX4 and a Vokey in 58/60 so far. Went from the hi toe to a Ping ES. Same issue for me in that I have to hit the sand hard in a none standard stance which twinges my back. Will try the smart sole and drop a line. Cheers

I was awful out of bunkers for a 12 h/c so purchased a Sureout, it did the trick and I learned how best to extricate myself from different conditions and then took the Sureout from the bag and put in a more versatile and less lofted Taylormade Bigtoe

Basically you can only go up one shot from your lowest that year.
...
It stops people gathering 0.1's throughout the season and then winning a big comp at the end of the year etc.
Having workedwith and played golf with an Irish guy many (20!) years ago I can understand why this 'local' method has been implemented! There are/were, according to him, far too many folk, in that neck of that part of the world, who take advantage of the nature of the game for their own benefit! And those were his words - I'm merely repeating them. With that info, it doesn't surprise me that the winners of 'big prize' comps have names that indicate Irish origins!

Back on the topic of Sure-Outs...

Having been a pretty good bunker player, post hip replacement golf has meant I'm significantly length-challenged with irons and lack power in bunker play. I'd seen how a mediocre player used his 60* S-O with great success and bought one. The simple adoption of a (super-)wide flange makes a lot of difference, both within bunkers and for chips from dodgy (or even perfect) lies!

I have no problem with anyone using 'tools' to overcome issues! In my many years of Golf, I've used chippers, Rescue to putts (still do) and the Sure Out(s) to overcome technique/physical issues. My first Pro also showed me a couple of 'unusual' techniques (Toe struck PW from rough and 'putter poke' - not using face) that have been helpful at times too! So my attittude is that if you find a tool/technique that helps your game, you are daft not to use it!

I'm not having a go at anyone, your money your choice and it's a sensible choice in your case.
I just feel if some practiced a bit more rather than saying they can't get out of bunkers they would enjoy the game more.
As you say yours decent bunker player so you'll know it's not rocket science to learn the basics.
Hope your back holds up.

It's funny how hip replacement affects players differently. I'm absolutely the same since having both resurfaced.

That gives me hope! I vary between “how brilliant was that - 3 over for the round “ and “have I got enough spare balls to get round” +20...,!??
Look for a Tiger Shark Triple Crown on ebay. They're almost automatic in bunkers...and cheap.
You'll almost certainly need a new grip, though. A Triple Crown won't be very new.
Hi all. I am guessing there is a forum thread somewhere that may answer my question better but as you guys have been so good on this thread I thought I’d ask. So
A:get fitted. All agreed? Ok
B:I got fitted for my Cobra F9 irons. C: Surely a fitted cavity back type iron (which really suits me) for shaft flex, lie angle, extended half inch length is better as say a 54 degree sand wedge than any other stock sand wedge I may be offered? My irons took ages to fit. I tried all sorts, Mizunos, TM M6s, Callaway Apex etc and it took 3 hours. Then should I just go “give me a Vokey /Mack daddy as everyone has them“? If you get fitted thoroughly why not continue the set into your wedges? My F9 is the correct club for me and I don’t see why I should stop at 9 iron or 44 degree PW or 49 GW - go all the way to 54 - it suits you! And it does, I can hit full 85 yard approaches or chip in from 20 yards with it. The F9 is slightly GI cavity anyway so why do I need so called specialist wedges?? Phew. Thanks in advance. ??

Since somebody has bumped this over a year later - I never bothered buying a Sure Out if anyone was wondering. :p When the sand is nice I use my high bounce 56, when the sand is hard I hack it out with the 60. I get by this way.

Hi there. It was my bump (I think!) as I have just bought a bargain Cleveland Smart Sole. Always struggled out of the sand since my back op as above but will report how my Sole goes after it arrives today. Like everyone else I’m not playing so shopping for new kit becomes a poor replacement! ??

Resurfaced? Like Andy Murray's? Not the same! And I probably left my symptoms for far too longf!

Yep, both of them. I walked 9 holes the day before the first one was done and absolutely couldn't have walked another hole - I guess that's pretty late, but I did play 9 holes 3 weeks later ?

I had the full replacement. Specialist recommended that over Resurface, so no-brainer. I was 6 weeks laid up, on crutches and a plastic 'seat' on the bog - to keep hip/thigh below 90*. 3 or 4 weeks of Health Nurse visits to change socks. So Resurfacing is definitely faster recovery. Took me a year to recover 'properly' (almost to the day, when I suddenly felt quite good!) but was back at, quite physical, work after the 6 weeks. Thigh muscles still hurt from effort at times, especially carrying a dozen clubs.

The main thing is a good recovery and that you (and I) are able to return to sport afterwards ?
