Recently joined Hayston and looking to sort my handicap and wondered if anyone fancies a bounce game in the next few weeks and who would be happy to sign my card.

I've met a few people at the club but struggling to organise a slots for bounce games and need two signed cards for my hcap.

Checked this out and a guest can sign your bounce cards provided they are a member of another GC. Was keen to get the bounce cards before laying medal as want to get to know course better and not make a fool of myself. Hcap likely to be 28.

We all started somewhere mate, medals is where it's at, get a time booked and get into it

Andrew I might be able to fit a game in next week.

Would suit me if it was during the day, let me know when your are thinking about playing.

Congrats on the membership.

Can you get a hold of a list of the members' mobile numbers? I did at mine recently because I was struggling to get games during the week. Now I'm turning away games left, right and centre!!!

I played a lot of games at my new club determined that I wasn't going to have a very high handicap (25+). I was almost embarrassed to hand my cards in. However, I'm glad that I got the courage to play with lower handicap members and hand my cards in. I quickly realised that single figure handicappers really aren't as good as I had built them up to be. I can still beat them on certain holes, they just drive a wee bit farther than me and have no complete duff shots in a round.

In the end, I got my HCP of 24 and as I know I can play to 28 without an increase in handicap, I'm relaxed and enjoying my golf. I'm probably getting a cup as a result of a supplementary card handed in this week.

Anyhoo, if you fancy a game, drop me a message.

Have a quick word with the pro. He'll have a handle on who at the club might help you out, who looks for partners and who wouldn't really be interested for whatever reason. A good pro would be able to hook you up with at least one round. Failing that put something on the members notice board with your mobile number and what you are trying to achieve. There might also be a roll up and play thing going on certain days that your not aware of.

That's what I did and I had to go in and take it down as I was getting 3 or 4 calls a day from singles looking for playing partners.

Bit far for me for a bounce game and I am bouncing all over the shop in the next 6 weeks but good luck anyway.

One wee tip though. Do your last card in a medal. It focus's the mind and, if you have the nerve, you'll probably score better. After you have your card, enter every single medal that you possibly can and you'll get yourself known around the club without being pushy. It can be really hard settling in but you'll get there and you'll have more games on offer than you can handle if you want them

Personally, I like playing on my own half the time anyway.

Bit the bullet on Saturday and played the medal and shot a 110. Was dissapointed at the time as been playing much better on the range but some of my iron shots let me down with a few duffers and daisey cutters during 8-11 especially. These are shots I hit easily on the range and just think the pressure of being out there got to me a bit.

Guys I played with were brill though and gave me a few pointers and went for a beer after. The only way is down and going to try and get 9 holes in a night this week to get more on course practice. Bomber - I work in edinburgh so struggle during the day and am more an evening and weekend golfer but thanks for the offer and you are welcome any Saturday if that suits.
