Anyone else not keen on Texas Scrambles ?

They have their place but they are a lot slower generally and there’s cheats all over them on open days. Not sure if it’s still around but the used to be a company called English master who did them and the winning scores were always stupidly low. We played out of our skins in one and we didn’t make the top 20! I much prefer better ball stableford in opens as you also get to play the course off your own ball.

Wasn’t intending to but ended up playing in one today. Par 70, a 4 man team with a combined calculated handicap of 19 won, net 50 (20 under par). A total waste of a competition. They had won it before they even tee’d off.
I can't even do the maths to work out how this happens. Were two or three of them off 40-something or more??

And that’s why our scrambles are reducing in size

Anyone with a low HC ( 5 and below ) isn’t bothering with them

They have been ruined
Same could be said for other formats - we have (anecdotal) evidence of low (less than 5) handicappers not entering the club champs as they want to play county team and are worried about their handicap going up. Sometimes think that single figure golfers is the biggest group of whingers in the world :ROFLMAO: And that is before you dare say "good shot" to them

Yeah that’s been the way for years , very low HC players entering scratch opens in the past because it was expected to be RO and their handicap won’t change

Vanity HCs

I’m ok - not bothered about county stuff 😂

My county hasn’t used UHS or WHS handicaps as a metric for County team selection for many, many years - you don’t want home based, handicap protecting, flat track bullies representing the County in matchplay on tough courses.

Our TS was won by a team scoring 50pts
Handicaps were
21
22
27
18
50 points is only 14-under. That's poor.

Last one I played in was 2021. We were 12-under gross, 14-under net and came 11th out of 26 teams.

Just had a look to see when our last one was.
Good Friday - members only.

net 20-under were the winning team

Current His
9.1
14.3
21.9

No way are they shooting under par, unless the course is something silly like less than 4500 yards, or they are just blantantly cheating
It's a scramble so option 2 is the correct option.

If that was at mine that would be a team handicap of around 13 so that motley crew shot a gross 7 under? Would loved to have seen that round, especially if it's 3 tee shots each.

I won a scramble once with a team handicap of 13 (which would have been approximately a 13, a 14, a 27 and a female off 21 ish) where we were 6 under gross. Minor caveat though, it was greenkeeper's revenge with a 'trick or treat' theme so a couple of the holes had ramps that send you towards the hole while others had obstacles in the way of the hole. We had one bogey and seven birdies. Won it by four shots. So it does happen I guess.

How many bogeys ?
I don’t know that sorry . Now you’ve asked that I might have been a bit presumptuous. Par 70 finished net 50
They had 15 shots so I presumed 5 birdies. No real way of finding out their card now . I know the lads and are good solid lads . Anyway glad it’s out of the way until winter (🤞🤞🤞).

I think most of the time when it comes to scrambles most enjoy the fun etc

15 shots is a lot in scrambles
