I had my second lesson last night & I was hitting most shots pretty well, including my driver which up until last night I never use. One thing he told me to be careful of was the tempo of my swing, sometimes I was rushing the swing rather than swinging smoothly.

Has anyone any tips, video clips etc that could help me?

If it's just the top of the backswing you are rushing, try this.
Make the first foot or your downswing the same speed as the last foot of your backswing.
Dont think of making your swing slower, just smoother as your pro said.

When I start getting all to cock with my swing i do a practice that helps me keep head down and strike the ball with a repetative tempo.

Not my best clip but if you notice at the end the swing tempo through the last 4 feet was the same as the other balls, it just had a lot more momentum from the bigger swing.

Its not a perfect drill but it helps me with tempo/head down and ball contact and it does have an effect for me in normal play, but it doesnt help my oration!. :o :D

I think my backswing is ok but sometimes I snap at my downswing (not sure if that's the right terminology). I did notice when I was doing it which I suppose is good but knowing your doing something & stopping doing it are two different things I guess.

A good tip is to try to take it back as smoothly and slowly as possible for the first twelve inches. The rest will follow. Montgomery recommends this. I'm a fast swinger and I know it works.
I'd also agree with the poster who says ''think Ernie Els''. I heard Faldo say it (in person).

I've just got back from a lesson where I was working on my tempo. My pro got me to count to 3 to the top of my back swing and on 4 I should be hitting the ball (3:1 tempo) before I was more like 2 to 2.5:1 . It made a huge difference to the quality of my strike. It gives you time to get the club in the correct place at the top of your swing. We measured a few of my old style and new style swings for clubhead speed, I had more when keeping a smooth tempo, add that to a better strike and the results are vastly superior.

I'm due to have a lesson solely on temp. My coach has a metronome and apparently a lot of the rhythms of top players are programmed in so you can have the long elegance of and Els or Couples or the tempo of a faster player. I hope it doesn't have a record function as my quick jerky effort will be over in nano seconds

I have used the 1-2-3 count of 1 on the backswing 2 at the top and 3 for impact, which ahs helped slow my swing down.

In fact must try this again come to think about it as I tend to snatch at longer clubs at the moment, particularly 3 wood off the deck
