Ok for me this is a sensitive subject. Even since I've caddied as a kid i have hated trolleys with a passion, but a reoccurring injury is making me consider using one, even though I really don't want to...... especially this time of year,

When I was 18 I broke my knee badly wrecking my cartridge, acl and pcl and pretty much every other internal part of the knee, it has been suggested on multiple occasions to consider a knee replacement but at the 33 I still think this is a bit of a premature thing to do... Maybe mid 40's

. Anyway, this year I've dropped around 2 stone in weight in order to get healthy, but my main reason was to ease the wear and tear on the knee, my theory in losing a few stone can only ease the pressure on the knee, but in recent weeks its really acting up, after about 9 holes it starts to burn/twinge and normally the day after golf it's pretty stiff... Ooh er. I carry a lightweight sun mountain bag which normally has the bar minimum in, so regarding this I don't think it's possible to make my bag weigh any less, so I'm starting to come to terms with the fact that it may now be time for a trolley, not because I need to, more a case of having to.

My question is do any forum members suffer with a similar problem and have they found going to a trolley helps, if it doesn't make a difference then it's pointless swapping across, but amu excess wear on the knee is just going to wear it out quicker than it already is so I think it's time to swallow the pride and get me a pram for me sticks...

I'm shocked, I find this unbelievable, you must be pulling my ..........

You are only 33 ? I thought Swinger making out he was in his 20's was far fetched.:D

I had severe knee problems for 19 years following smashing my right leg up in a car accident, fortunately it was my right knee so a lot less twisting on it than my left. When I came back to golf nearly 2 years ago I loved playing again but even a pull trolley was too much for my knee and I would be in a lot of pain after a round and the next day it was agony. One of the seniors let me try out his old powakaddie for a few rounds to see if it helped. The difference was night and day. When I finished a round with it I was still a bit sore but nothing like the pain I had had before. I was also able to play the next day which I hadn't even thought about up until then.
I had my knee done last October and it turned out to be the Medial plica had snapped and was laying inside the joint causing the pain.
I know you don't like the idea of having a trolley but ir it's for medical reasons then go with it as it will transform your enjoyment of the game and personally I would even go as far as getting an electric trolley. There was an article in GM last year on electric trolleys and even suggested young people should get one to make the game more fun. At the end of the day an electric trolley is nothing more than a caddie when you need one. You don't see the pros carrying their own bags so why should you.

I have trouble with both knees but worst is the left. Makes shift of weight during the shot a nightmare and if it's really sore I top a lot. Usually hit a few co-codamol & ibuprohen before hitting the course if it's really playing up. Tried carrying but didn't work out so went to a pull trolley. This helped a little but the trouble I found that a lot of additional work is still being done by the legs. Would imagine this is the same even with a push trolley. Use electric now and really notice the difference. Most comfortable round I've played was when I had a buggy but that's just ruins the round because I feel it can become rushed.

I don't think all those years of spinning your heel out helped. Most things sore tend to ache more in the cold... don't know if you can strap it or get a heat pad but would imagine keeping it supple and taking cod liver oil or glucosamine might help. Nowt wrong with a trolley.... forget the knee... it saves the back!!

I dont want to put a dampener on this JO, but recent reports have said cod liver oil tablets dont work and I asked my consultant about glucosamine when my hips were bad and his answer was that it was seen to give a very small improvemnt to horses but there was absolutely no evidence that humans benefitted at at all , and lets be frank, Baz is no Frankel! He said to just save your money (to pay his bill for replacement joints, I think)

After couple of breaks to the knee and 20 plus years of rugby I to suffer but have also lost a couple of stone since retirement, the after match beers no longer happen, and looking to lose a bit more yet. But I decided that the trolley was for me as why put the extra strain and be laid up for a day or two after a round. Just go for it you'll be surprised I am sure.

Knees & ankles knackered after 35 years of footy, they ache more in the cold and get stiff after play, I do still carry in winter but use a trolley for 8 months of the year. Swallow your pride, treat yourself to a trolley.

About time they banned footy I reckon ;)

Mine was though footy as well. Seems this 'so called' sport is responsible for crippling half this forum

I have just got a Clicgear trolley and have noticed my back pain is not as severe. Not sure if it will help a knee? Hire one and find out would be my guess.

In terms of knees and their health, my mate has just had a new knee and he is thriving on it. Really huge improvement for him. Might be worth going to the hospital for a discussion on this?
