I have practiced loads with what I have. Either I have to change my swing or my equipment. I am a pretty stubborn guy so I am going with the equipment.

I think they have made a terrible mistake. What you need is a senior flex shaft. It might look for the first few months that you have no control or distance from your drives but by that point I should I got my own back & pumped you 7&5 a few times to level the score!

Dustin Johnson carries 303.7yds (329.5yds total) with 120mph swing, hitting 1.5° up, with a 9.5° R11

If you have 120mph swing then I'd seriously go for a second opinion before parting with more than 1p of your money.

I would not trust American Golf to fit me for a glove let alone any clubs. Years ago I went to get fitted for a set of irons there and it was a joke. Some lad who was about 18 was doing the fit. He measured my wrist to floor length then looked at a Ping chart and told me what the spec I should get the Taylormade clubs I wanted in...:confused: After asking him he got one off the rack as they did not have a demo club and taped it up. He then changed his mind. Ping said 1 degree up half inch longer, now he said 2 up half inch longer. I just walked out and waited for the TM tour van to come into the area and booked in with them. TM set me up using launch monitors and hit plates to 1 up and 1 inch long and even got me to have more flexible shafts.

That is my experience of American Golf fitting. So I would have saved a few quid going there, but I would have ended up buying another set of irons 12 months later, as I would have not been hitting them very well.

I went for a fitting to AG for a set of G10 Irons a couple of years ago and ended up ordering a set of red dot which is 1* flat only to find out when I went to Ping for a G20 fitting a couple of months ago that I actually needed blue dot 1* upright.

Don't know if it's the G20's or the correct blue dot lie but I'm now getting at least another 10 yards with them and they feel so much better.

Really got my heart set on a Titleist. He was trying to push me down Taylormade route as he said there was more shaft options but after I was getting the same results we reverted back to Titleist. The impression I got was that they never had other shafts in stock for the D2/3.

You knocked the nail on the head, they didn't have the shafts.

Go to Titleist for a fitting, you can book through your local pro. There fitting centre is at Kings Acre in Edinburgh.

I have got a D3 and it is the best club I have ever. Second best is the matching 3 wood.;) Hope all goes well at the fitting.
 
Had my fitting today. All went well apart from American golf telling me the fitting was at 1.15 but was actually at 12.45. Luckily there was nobody booked after me! Also booked me in for a full fitting (woods, irons, wedges) when all I wanted was a driver. The fitter advised not to ever to get them to custom fit as they generally don’t know how to use the equipment.

We tried many a shaft with a 9.5 D3 head and ended up with a UST Axiv Core Red 69, Flex: X shaft. I averaged a 270 carry with this and it felt good. Also seemed very forgiving. Swing speed was 112mph (not 120 as American Golf told me). I could hit you with all the figures but I simply can’t remember them!

It looks like a good set up they have at Kings Acre, anyone played the course? Hopefully I can return at some point this season and have a knock.

I play an outing there very October, it's a decent track.
 
I'm cancelling my fitting with AG on Sunday after reading through this. I had my doubts last Sunday anyway when i was trying out a 910 D3 with a RIP shaft. I was definitely hitting it further but wanted to try out a few different shafts. The answer from the bloke (who i was assured is one of the best in the area) was that the RIP shaft is the only one that really works with the 910 and there was no need to try different shafts. Honestly.

I told the guy straight to his face that i'd never heard such tosh.

Have you Tried a Ping G20 with a reg shaft that might work;):)
