Need advice on a replacement driver shaft.
I have a Tensei av white, 75 stiff.
Ball flight is too low, direction is good.

I’m working on my swing but speed is currently around 90mph so just want to pick something up 2nd hand for now without breaking the bank until I’m ‘settled’ enough to go for a proper new driver fitting.

If you like the feel of the Tensei then maybe look at the Blue. I picked up a Tensei Blue 55 1K in stiff for about £100 with a Titleist adapter fitted (others available). Mid launch, mid spin shaft and I like the flight just fine.

I am also in the field of thought that if 90mph is the driver swing speed you need to look at a reg.

You do not say which head but a lot of manufacturers now use the Fujikura Ventus Blue (the higher the number the lower the flight)and you an see quite a few on EBAY.

A couple of years back I went with Tensei orange (fitter recommended on a Ping) in reg as a good option (lower flight than blue and higher than white).

The Tensei Blue is a good shout for sure. Even 65g might work, but 75g is too heavy a shaft in driver for most people.

I'm around the same speed and the stiff works fine. His issue here might be the low launch, low spin White series.

Regular shaft for me and I slice it all day.
I think this might be my problem.

Currently playing an old Ping G20 with regular shaft and have a 50+ yard slice when I catch them well.

Is there any cost economical way to a) check my clubhead speed and/or b) try a stiffer shaft?

I'm in the market for a more modern driver but too tight to shell out on being fitted for a brand new one. Reluctant to jump in with a new one unless I can work out whether my slice is created by the shaft flex.

I draw my irons generally and those shafts are stiff.

Economical way would be go to American Golf for a “fitting” and hit some on their launch monitor to get your swing and clubhead speeds.

What exactly shaft do you have in it? Make, model and weight.
Regular and stiff aren't a single industry standard, so some heavy regulars play better than light stiff for some players.
You could try and find a 2nd hand stiff shaft with a Ping adapter and see how that works out?

Yeah I did consider that but feel a bit guilty getting a fitting for something I have no intention of buying.

You can just ask them to try a couple of demo clubs without being booked in for a fitting. I've done it at a local range a couple of times
