I hope they are banned for life, they are clearly not golfers, just people who went for a laugh. Throw the key away as far as I am concerned what utter idiots they must be. I think Scots caddy should have perhaps held his temper though, that probably didn't help matters, although he should never have had to be in that situation anyway. I think that is the trouble with such big crowds it is not possible to marshall them sufficiently.

I agree that in european tournaments the marshals are clearly more effective, as well as the fans being generally more respectful and less over the top.

I think if this happened on our side of the pond, you'd probably get other spectators shutting them up. But this is just a typical example of american 'get in the hole' golf fans I guess.

I can't say I'm not surprised with the episode.

The Americans back their own (understandable) but should also applaud and respect visitors.
Just more proof what a certain minority of Americans are ignorant buffoons intent on spoiling everyone elses enjoyment of the game.

It's golf for God's sake, scuffling on the course! Bringing it down to footballs level!

Let's not get to "holyer than thou" on this subject. Some of our so called fans can be just as bad. The fans who spend lots of time in either hospitality lounges or at the public beer tents can be just as bad IMO. We too have the Tiger fan who only wants to see Tiger and to hell with the rest of them. As for mobile phones, although the R&A has banned them, I'm sure there will still be people who manage to get one onto the course.

from my wealth of experience of viewing live golf (one day at Wentworth) there were nowhere near enough marshalls if needed to control an out of control crowd, and the majority were 'not in the first flush of youth'. they were occasionally required to hold up their 'quiet please' boards but generally the crowd knew enough not to need to be told; with the exception of the usual one or two who think their conversation more important but those near them usually dealt with that. (I suspect these are the same people who go to the cinema to talk over the film, usually right behind me.)

mobile phones were there, being used as cameras mostly thanks to the 'no cameras' rule (which is there to protect the pga copyright NOT the golfers).

the interesting thing is that we (the forum) could get a team of marshalls together and apply to marshall tour events.

One of the attractions of going to watch Pro golf is getting close to your idols and listening to them discuss things with their caddies. If we were stopped from walking the course and stuck in grand stands for the full day people would stop attending in their droves.

We can't let the neanderthal W... Yanks eff it up for the masses.

How about this then:

If the bad behaviour by American fans continues then they should LOOSE A MAJOR.

Move it to Europe until they can behave.

I would of thought Rugby would have been more apt.

Not if your talking about the fans as opposed to the players. We still haven't got to the stage where Tiger and Phil have a punch up on the 9th green. It was the spectators that caused the commotion so more like football fans- rugby fans are usually gentleman.

I am just watching a replay of the play off and did you see the fans after Tigers tremendous bunker shot at 14? About 5 of them jumped in the bunker and started 'woooping' it was ridiculous, they should never have been that close but with such big numbers they most probably just over powered the marshals. It didn't seem like there were any ropes down the fairways either to keep the spectators back- there may well have been- but I didn't see them because the prats in the crowd most probably just climbed over them. I think the crowd control needs to be much better organised next year.

The U.S fans really cheesed me off! No way can UK fans be compared to them.
The CONSTANT whooping and holloring is a joke with one *** shouting "Stay Out" to a Westward put!!! They really should sort them out its outrageous.
I dont understand why anyone would want to shout "Get in the hole" ?????? Dont they realise what an arse they sound like.
