Alterations to WHS?

So your statement isn’t correct that “ golfers are doing fewer calculations now”

Theres 600+ posts debating about it!

Under the old method you didn’t need a “ chart or app”
Rounding is one of many calculations that no longer need to be performed by the player. Self-adjustment is another.

I'm interested to know what additional calculations you believe players need to do now?

Ok. So I am playing a friendly 4BBB match but I do not know my three playing companions until just before I tee off.

What steps do I have to follow to work out the shots each receive given the information that will be known by each player or that is readily to hand…either on a board or in such as the IG app. I assume that this will be as a minimum, their HIs and their rounded CHs given from a table mapping HI v rounded CH for the tees we choose to play off.

And the steps are?

I can sort myself out for individual strokeplay, but will almost certainly find myself sorting out the shots for any friendly fourball match I play - and having a debate I really won’t want to be having…🙄

Initiate a chat, then give way to whatever the one with the hardest mates wants to do.
That's how it seems to go at my club.

No workings required.

Yesterday I attended an EG WHS workshop and they revealed that the "Course/Playing handicap tables" reports on the WHS platform had been updated to show before and after 1/4/24. They have also expanded to show the various % allowances.

When I accessed the "before and after" for the 22.2 HI, I expected a difference. The PH remained unchanged at 23.

OK, I probably am going a bit doolally. I have gone back to the WHS platform. They have been very sneaky. There is a box which allows you to specify the "effective from" date so I put 1/4/24. What I missed was another box further down the page - labelled rule set - which toggled between "current" and "CR - Par". Maybe there's hope for me yet.
Where do we find these Tables?

From April 1st, it will be 90% of the difference between rounded Course Handicaps.

You take the HIs of each pairing, add them, divide by two. Higher of the two pairing gets shots on the difference.

Anything else is too complex to bother with.

Are folk honestly saying that as I stand by the 1st tee I have to open up a bleedin’ spreadsheet to find the shots each get off the lowest. That is nuts. And if I don’t have access to the spreadsheet for whatever reason?

There’s 600+ posts on calculations do you really need me to point them out to you.

I pointed out your statement was wrong about “ doing less calculations than in the past”

Apparently they are! But no, you absolutely do not need to do that, and I have no idea why anyone would.

My statement was not untrue.
There are 600+ posts about calculations that golfers do not need to do, or even know anything about.

The updated calculator for use from April 1st is available to download from: https://www.englandgolf.org/2024-whs-update-resources

It's currently at v1.16 but it must be noted that there is an error on the 9-hole sheet (the CH value is rounded for the forward tee) that is due for correction in v1.17.
It also only has space for 3 players handicaps on the '18 holes 3 Tee' Tab on which you can select 4 Ball options. 🤷‍♂️
