Anyone on here had an albatross? Give us your stories of the most elusive bird, or near misses.....

I rattled the pin with a seven iron second shot on a par 5 today. Looked pretty sweet from the moment I hit it, pitched short and ran at the hole. Must have been moving too fast though, hit the pin and left me a six inch tap in for eagle.

Followed up with a triple bogey on the next hole! :o

Nearest I've come is within 10 inches after hitting 2 solid 3 woods into a par 5 years ago.

A 7 iron into a Par 5..?
You been in the gym..?

Had one on our 7th 4 iron that trickled into the hole

Then on the 3rd of The Springs in Oxon hit a cracking 3 Rescue that rolled perfectly into the hole

Had one on the 5th hole of the Old Course. Massively strong left to right wind. Hit a drive way left and the wind brought it back onto the fairway. Then a 3 wood aimed out left again and the wind brought it back towards the green which was out of view from where I was hitting. Walked up to the green and couldn't see my ball anywhere. One of my playing partners walked past the hole to get to his ball and asked me what I was playing. Told him and he picked it out of the hole and threw it to me.

Playing off 20 at the time, SI 2, nett 0 for 7 points.

Struggle to get eagles these days so think an albatross is way beyond me. Very rare for me to get to many par 5's in two or threaten the green on short par fours. Good shooting from those that have though

Had one at my last club on the 2nd.

5/6 iron for my second shot across the dip and rolled in perfectly.

The same round I had my hole in one last September I lipped out for an albatross in the same round on the 15th. Would have been quite the double in one round!

Hit the flag with my second shot to our first in the scratch champs this year, only time I probably didn't look out of place that day!!

Ive bounced one off the pin at the 2nd at Chorley GC then missed the 2 ft birdie putt :(

Eagle putt you mean?

I've come 6inches short on our 13th par 5. Looked in as soon as it got to the green. Was conceded, but I insisted I putted it in! Driver - 4 hybrid.

I had an albatross when I was 15. A good story that I have recounted here before.

I was full of it at that point of my golfing development and took an age to play, loads of practice swings etc. Was getting ready to hit a 4 wood to the par 5 7th green at Hallowes GC and my grandfather asked me to wait as the greenskeeper was cutting a new hole. This took a few minutes and I had to wait as a result, which gave rise to a minor teenage strop.

When the signal came to say the hole was ready, I recall saying to my Grandpa that the delay had put me off, broken my concentration and so on. Consequently I just walked up to the ball, took a stance and smacked it towards the green. Two bounces, a bit of roll and it went straight in. The topography of the hole meant we could see it the whole way too which was great.

I felt elated and a bit sheepish and jogged up to the green to shake the greenskeepers hand who had seen the shot from start to finish and had waited to congratulate me.

I haven't had another albatross in the subsequent 30 years but did learn a very valuable lesson that day which was - stop fannying about and get on with hitting the ball.

I have barely had a practice swing for a full shot since that day.

Golly,you golfers are so boring.!
I was ready to tell you all ,no albatrosses but plenty of buzzards circling the high ground at my course.
Beautiful birds.
