OK so i am contemplating taking golf back up as a pastime however have some questions that you may be able to help me with

  1. As none of my friends play golf i don't really want to play a round on my own would a club pair me up in a group?
  2. I am transgender female how does this effect me playing i.e. tee boxes etc.?
  3. Obviously golf can be an expensive hobby don't really want to be spending fortunes as not sure how long i will stick at it as i have changed a lot physically since i last played. Would it be better to buy a cheap second-hand set and see how i get along?

I live in the Sheffield area so any recommendation on locations or even playing partner greatly appreciated

1. Not sure about the UK. In the USA you usually get paired up.

2. Play the tee boxes you feel are appropriate for your level of play. Decide for yourself using rationality if you should enter men's or women's competitions.

3. Go visit a few shops find out your club head speed and see what appropriate used gear they have.

1. If a member of a club you generally put you name down to play competitions and games are created from the entries - either drawn or as entered. Otherwise it's down to you to arrange playing partners either in advance or on the day.
2. You have the same choices any other female golfer/member has.
3. Apart for the focus on the word 'cheap' I would always recommend buying golf clubs second hand as long as you have appropriate advice available.

When I joined my club they have a system in place for buddies, both males and females have a buddy 'leader' who will help you get a playing partner. I am happy to play on my own but have had no problems going out with others when I want to :)

Good luck

Welcome along. Go along to a pay and play or a club and speak to the pro and ask them if they can fit you in with someone. Alternatively, loiter on the putting green by the first tee and just ask members as they go by if you can join them

Play the ladies tee of the day

Shop around. Lots of good bargains to be had online. Check something like Golfbidder for an idea of what is out there, and potential prices (although they do tend to be on the high side).

Welcome back to golf and I hope it's a long flirtation. Get stuck in on here. Plenty of good (and some not so good) advice

Hi there,

I have personal experience of this, having gone through the same, I am happy to discuss things on the open forum or I can contact you by pm, please let me know.

Hi Louise

More than happy with a PM

Oh and i am now the proud owner of some clubs for everyone who shed some interest. Plan for the coming days is to get to the driving range and see how bad i have become in the 10+ years since i last hit a ball lol

Whatever you do, enjoy it, as golf is a great way to meet new people, and dont let the odd divvy put you off. Generally golfers are a welcoming friendly bunch, so give it a good go.

I'm sure that Louise, will have some great advice for you.

Hope it all works out for you.
